While The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars are often known to feature their family on the show, Margaret Josephs didn’t even talk about her son until the show’s season 13. And she had a good reason for it. Her son Spencer Josephs was “in a career that’s very serious and he does not like the spotlight.”

Meet Spencer Josephs, Margaret Josephs Son
Spencer Josephs is Margaret’s biological son who she shared with her late ex-husband Jan Josephs. But since Spencer chose not to appear on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, many believed the young one hated his mother — which never was the case. In fact, Spencer and Margaret share a close-knit bond.
“Everyone is like ‘your kids hate you and duh, duh, duh,’ all that nonsense, he is my biological son, we are very close, we are together all the time,” Margaret said.
Also, back in March 2021, she fired back at the haters through a tweet, “I have a biological son that everyone on the cast knows about and we are very close. So please stop with the sweeping false statements about my “real children” my step children are also my children I raised them.”
Besides Spencer, Margaret was also close to her stepchildren (except her stepdaughter) who were fathered by Jan. She even had a good relationship with her current husband, Joe Benigno’s two children. In her words, “My stepdaughter and I, not so good, but everybody else, all my boys, great, which makes me happy.”
But not long ago, Margaret regretted that her divorce from Jan soured her relationship with her stepchildren. “They’re holding a grudge. And it doesn’t make it any easier. But I know in my heart we’ll find a way back to one another. I’d die over them,” she said at the time.
In addition, the star also revealed that she had to negotiate with fully grown, independent adults with their own livelihoods and families during the divorce.
The internet indeed was harsh on her, especially, since unlike a lot of families who stay together for the kids, hers were grown adults (living separately) when they got divorced. But all’s well that ends well.
Spencer Josephs Father
Spencer Josephs was born to his father Jan Josephs and his mother Margaret Josephs.
His father, Jan was born on September 5, 1947, and took his last breath at the age of 74. He was a Fairleigh Dickinson University 1969 graduate, who decided to join his father and brother in the family business Joseph’s Brothers Embroidery and dedicated his life there.
As for when he married Margaret, it was in 1994 when his three kids (from a previous marriage) were 8, 14, and 16. “They needed someone to love them and I was completely obsessed with them,” Margaret said while explaining the reasons why she married him.
After being one of the Josephs, Margaret then left for a lucrative career in fashion design to become a devoted mother. Sadly, after 17 years of homemaking, Margaret started an affair with a contractor (her current husband Joe Benigno) working on her house and their marriage fell apart in 2013.
Reportedly, Margaret and Jan’s divorce was finalized in late 2013 with an order “endeavor to make certain that Spencer shall spend reasonable time with both parties. All holidays and vacations shall be divided and/or alternated on an equal basis.”
Neither Jan nor Margaret had to pay child support, as they split all of Spencer’s costs equally. This also included Spencer’s Lexus car payments and college costs — which Jan paid for the first two years of his tuition and Margaret paid for the latter two years.
