Maryam Henderson-Uloho On Queer Eye
Maryam Henderson-Uloho was one of the “heroes” on season 7 of Netflix’s Queer Eye. She was aided by the “fav five” individually to transform her life from zero to a hundred.
Culture expert, Karamo Brown helped Maryam re-establish contact with her family. For that, he gave the hero an old photo album that reminded her of herself before she went to prison. He then forced her to the final letter her firstborn sent to her before passing away while she was still in prison. Ultimately, he asked her not to avoid her responsibilities as a mother, and she apologized to her children.
On the other hand, grooming expert, Jonathan Van Ness, noticed that Maryam’s dreadlocks stemmed from a place of safety rather than expression. So, he gave her a completely different look and untangled her loc — which took 5 people working straight for 3 hours.
As for design guru, Bobby Berk, he wanted to bring new life into Mary’s “dark and dank cell” home. He added plants to her home and brightened things up via the home’s decorations.
Food and wine expert, Antoni Porowski then wanted Maryam to practice what she preaches. He urged her to start small and rediscover the joy of being in the kitchen. The expert even invited her to his restaurant known for its Creole food and made Shrimp Étouffée.
Lastly, fashion expert, Tan France reminded Maryam that she’s beautiful. He took her to West London BTQ where she chose only a few items — but it were the kind of clothes that made her seem gorgeous. Tan wanted Mary to wear light, flowing clothing so that her movement may be seen as she walked. However, he did offer Maryam me vibrant designs that are somewhat reminiscent of the African-inspired items she already has in her collection.
