The long-awaited series, Survivor 44, premiered on March 1st, and let’s just say the 1st episode was one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Matt Blankinship On Survivor 44
Only one episode of Survivor 44 has aired so far and it feels like we’ve seen it all. The heartbreaking moment of the show definitely has to be Bruce Perreault’s departure from the show.
In the first very challenge, Bruce injured himself within the first 20 minutes of the episode. During an army crawl underneath a wooden platform erected on the beach, Bruce hit his head suffering from massive bleeding. Despite suffering a gruesome head wound, Bruce continued on with the challenge.
At one point, however, Bruce lost consciousness and Jeff Probst, the producer of the show, halted the competition. Sometime later, Bruce regained consciousness and stayed on the show only to be evacuated later.
After the challenge, while Bruce was helping his tribe set up camp, he felt a strange pain in the head. “My head is killing me,” Bruce said. Medics were called in to assess the star. After the examination, Jeff decided Bruce should leave the show.
Everyone was devastated to see Bruce go out of the show, including Jeff. However, the episode ended on a good note as Jeff announced that Bruce will be invited back to the show and have another shot out on the island.
Now talking about Matt, his tribe Soka won both challenges in Survivor 44 premiere. Before coming out to play the survival competition, Matt spoke to Parade.com and answered some important questions.
In response to the question “What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?,” Matt said, “I think one of the things that I’ve had to learn the hard way in my life is that things don’t always work out the first time around…In my current job, I applied three times, and they rejected me each time. And then, the fourth time, I finally got the job. So I think that persistence and the ability to take this moment of defeat and pick yourself up and turn it around and try again will be really important in this game.”

Matt is a Software Engineer at Google. He has been working there since January 2019.
The Survivor 44 contestant completed his undergraduate studies in Oberlin and graduated with a degree in Computer Science. While Matt was at Oberlin, he interned for SFJAZZ. There, he helped organize and expand the SFJAZZ database of scanned sheet music and assisted in the administration of auditions.
Upon graduation, he worked as a software development engineer at Amazon Lab123, from July 2017 to November 2018.
For high school, Matt went to Albany High School in Albany, California.
