Matty Edgell On GBBO The Greatest Bake Off 2023
Apparently, Matty Edgell’s students have been “taking the mick” out of him for it, according to a teacher who is competing in The Great British Bake Off. One of the twelve bakers competing in the most recent season of the Channel 4 program is Matty, a resident of Peterborough. The physical education and science teacher claimed there was “a lot of shock” when people learned he would be participating on the show.
“I’ll be watching it through my fingers, I think,” Matty told BBC.
He claimed that although they had been “really supportive” about him going on the show, his students, family, and friends had been startled. He described it as “the most bizarre, surreal experience from start to finish.” “When you first walk in there, it’s weird because it’s like you’re in the TV,” he added.
Matty declared he would watch the already-filmed series with his parents, his fiancée’s parents, and her parents. It would be “the most uncomfortable watch I’ve ever experienced”, Matty said.
Matty has referred to himself as a “former secret baker” with a “rustic but neat” aesthetic who enjoys watching internet patisserie tutorials before bed. Favorite flavors include citrus, nuts, and chocolate. The teddy bear cake his grandmother created for him on his fourth birthday, he added to the program, was the first baked good to catch his attention. Since then, all of his baked goods have tried to match its brilliance.
Matty told Peterborough Today, “I never thought that I would be on Bake Off. My reaction was “Oh **********” and then my feet went tingly. It was so surreal but Alison and Noel are both so nice and did such a good job at making you feel at ease and included. The first time I walked in and saw my station was really surreal and it soon became really scary when I realized I was right at the front. I was so naive to everything that goes into making the Bake Off.”
“I think my strengths are the flavors and my weaknesses are my decorating skills,” he gushed about his strength and weaknesses to the outlet.

Matty Edgell is working as a physical education and science teacher at Hampton College. Hampton College also tweeted: “We are very proud to announce our PE Teacher Mr Edgell will be taking part in the new series of The Great British Bake Off!
