Almar Guevarra first met Guy Tang before 2011 and on their first date, he serenaded the Bling Empire star with a Maria Carey song called “Circles.” Luckily, Maria was Guy’s favorite artist. “How did he know I am obsessed with Mariah,” Guy thought to himself. And it was then and there that he decided that Almar was “the one.”
Fast-forward to July 2015, the duo got married in an intimate ceremony. According to Almar, their idol, Maria Carey even congratulated them on their wedding.
Now, over 7 years into marriage, Tang acknowledges Almar as a blessing in his life. All his life, the reality star was told his sexuality was “wrong and a sin” and was rejected by society because he is an Asian. All the stereotypes made him feel undesirable, insecure, and want to erase his heritage. But at the age of 27, after he openly came out as gay and met Almar, the skies just cleared.
“I lived most of my life in fear and in the closet. I was filled with anger and rage. And I am who I am now because of my past and my pain. I will no longer be silenced and be afraid to be who I am,” Guy remarked.
On Valentine’s day 2020, Guy dedicated a song to Almar and released its music video. The video also featured their dog MiMi.
Besides Mimi, the duo also shared two fur babies named Boba and Lychee.
Did you know: Before coming out of the closet, Guy had a girlfriend who was white and her cousin had a problem with him being Asian. So, one night, he came over to Guy’s house with a gun and threaten to kill him.
