American stand-up comedian/actor, storyteller, director, producer, as well as writer Mike Birbiglia as we know is a frequent contributor to This American Life and The Moth. Also, we know him for his several comedy albums and television specials. But, it’s not about his career or jokes we shall talk about in this writing. Instead, in the rest of the writing, we shall talk about his wife Jen Stein, AKA J Hope Stein.
Meet J Hope Stein, Comedian Mike Birbiglia Wife
Comedian Mike Birbiglia and his wife J Hope Stein got married on 24 November 2007. Jen, who is Jewish, and Mike, who is Catholic, got married at City Hall and not in a fancy wedding their families would have liked. The reason for this, Mike gave in an interview later in 2011. He said he and his wife’s rule of thumb is such that everything they do, they do because they really enjoy it and because they feel comfortable. So, they also felt the same way about their wedding and hence they got married the way they did. Also, that day when they got married, it just so happened that by chance Nathan Lane was also there. So, the legendary actor/Broadway star also ended up being the witness to their exchange.
So over the years, Jen has been an incredible wife and a great friend. Jen literally tucks Mike into bed at night because he is a sleepwalker. He has rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, which once caused him to run out of a second-story window of a motel. These more than one-time experiences have led Mike even to write a book called Sleepwalk With Me.
Another important thing is that Jen also eventually convinced him to have a baby. For a long time since getting married, Mike did not want to have kids. It took him a lot of persuading to even get to the ‘should-I-should-I-Not’ dilemma.
Yet, the two did eventually agree and so they had their daughter Oona in May 2015 after a difficult pregnancy. But, even then Mike struggled to connect with her. It was not until Oona began talking that he felt like fully embracing fatherhood. Jen, on the other hand, felt just too connected to her right away. But in between, there were also struggles like Mike required of sleeping in a separate room and not being able to help with the baby at night because of his sleepwalking disorder. Meanwhile, because of all this, Jen was in a way also fearful that their marriage would end because of the emotional distance between her and Mike because of the baby.
Nonetheless, things have fallen into their place now. And it is Mike himself now talking about how parenthood is the best thing that can ever happen to a person.
Talking about Oona, Jen said once that the young one has “obviously” inherited her parents’ creative passion. Then, with jest, she added that their daughter is always making things, cutting and gluing things.

J Hope Stein Job
In a December 2019 interview, J Hope Stein talked about how she gets her work done around her daughter’s schedule. She explained that she gets up early with Oona and takes her to school, and then, from there, she just goes to do her first writing session. If all goes well, she said, she gets something by 10 AM, and then if she gets even luckier she can get things done before 3 when she picks Oona up from school.
So, J Hope is a poet and author who writes under the pen name J. Hope Stein. Until pretty recently, she had this fact a secret. She then revealed on Brenda O’Meara’s podcast that aside from her husband and a few poet friends, she did not tell anyone what name she wrote under or when any of her poems were published. She spilled how she would just hide her manuscripts around the house. To this date, she had penned five books of poetry including Talking Doll, Mary, Corner Office, Occasionally, I Remove Your Brain Through Your Nose, and Little Astronaut.
While Jen started writing poems after her boyfriend died it was Mike who pushed her to focus solely on her writing. And before she started writing she used to have an office job. She often talks about how she gave her heart and soul to her office job for like 10 years.
If you also need to know about her net worth, she is expected to have over $800K as of late 2022.
