The Great British Bake Off winner Matty Edgell is currently engaged to his fiancee Lara Merry. The couple has been in a relationship for more than seven years.
After Lara was introduced as his fiancée earlier in the show, Matty from Bake Off declared he was engaged to her. However, the couple has since disclosed their wedding date. He gushed that it was one of the “happiest moments of his life” when he made the proposal while visiting Sorrento, Italy. Wearing a white outfit, Lara was there to witness Matty being proclaimed the winner of Bake Off 2023. As he gave her a hug and buried a tender kiss on her cheek, Lara flashed her stunning, sparkling ring.
He said: “My next big baking project is making our wedding cake. I am just going to keep enjoying it.”
The Great British Bake Off’s X (formerly Twitter) account published a post congratulating Matty and Lara on their engagement shortly after it was announced that Matty had won. “‘A huge congratulations from all of us at Bake Off to Matty and Lara on their engagement!” the post read.
Matty has previously shared that Lara was the one responsible for signing him up for the competition.
Matty Edgell is 28 years old as of 2023. He is working as a physical education and science teacher at Hampton College. Additionally, he plays football for Stanground Sports.
After battling his way through weeks of fierce competition, the 28-year-old instructor defeated other bakers Dan and Josh to win the championship. Now that he’s spoken up, Matty’s long-winded Instagram comment celebrating his victory has split fans.
Matty wrote, “Who saw that one coming?! What an experience and what a journey @britishbakeoff! This is something that has taught me as much about myself as it has about baking. I can’t thank the bakers, the crew, and everyone involved in the process enough for making it so special.”
“The friendships I’ve formed and the memories I’ve made throughout this have been amazing. Dan, Josh, where to even begin?! 30 out of 30 bakes! You two are insane. Your baking ability is unquestionable and I’ve learnt so much from you both. Thank you for the support and words of wisdom throughout, you’re such special people!” Matty added further.
“Thank you so much to all of my family for every bit of support and encouragement. Lara, I can’t imagine I was fun to live with at times and I am so grateful for the sacrifices you made for me throughout this! I don’t think I made dinner for 10 weeks,” the Petersborough-based teacher concluded. “Finally, I’ve been so overwhelmed with the support and comments I’ve received throughout. From friends, colleagues, students, and strangers, thank you all so much – you’ve made this the best experience!”
