Amanda revealed that Michelle gave her insights from a player’s perspective when they talk about officiating the game. In June 2018, Michelle and Amanda tied knots and got married. Amanda said about her wife, “She brings a great perspective of being a player when we discuss fouls or other issues that may arise in the field.”
All three of Amanda’s daughters attended their mother’s wedding. She shared that, “The girls have an incredible love for her and us together. She makes me the strong, independent, and fiercely driven woman that I am both on and off of the football field.”

When a fellow spectator overheard her shouting about a missed illegal block call while she was watching a high school football game with her daughters the person recommended Sauer-Cook start attending meetings to become a high school referee in Westchester County, N.Y. which she did.
When Amanda started officiating, she hadn’t even started working as a referee. She also made history to work in a major football league when she served as a center judge for the short-lived Alliance of American Football.

Amanda Sauer was previously married to her husband Peter Sauer. Peter was a former team captain at Stanford who helped lead the Cardinal to the 1998 Final Four. Sadly, Peter died at the age of 35 in July 2012. He died in White Plains, N.Y., while playing in an adult league recreational basketball game.
Peter, who married Amanda in 2001, died right after celebrating their 11th anniversary. Together, they had three daughters. In 2014, their eldest daughter was diagnosed with melanoma. She was by her daughter’s side through one full month of chemotherapy every day, followed by three times a week, all while her daughter only missed school for surgery.
Speaking about Amanda’s late husband, Peter was born on 9 November 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned a degree in economics from Stanford. His father Mark Sauer was a former president of the St. Louis Blues NHL franchise and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball club.
