Meet Natalie Wilson From HBO’s Black And Missing

“Black and Missing” is HBO’s four-part docu-series created by Emmy winner Geeta Gandbhir, and Soledad O’Brien former CNN anchor and executive producer of the show. They worked with Natalie Wilson and Derrica Wilson, co-founders of Black and Missing Foundation.

The show came in the aftermath of Gabby Petito’s case that caught the mainstream news. Father of Gabby, Joseph Petito, said in a statement, “This same type of heightened awareness should be continued for everyone. It’s on all of you, everyone that’s in this room, to do that. If you don’t do that for other people that are missing, that’s a shame, because it’s not just Gabby that deserves that.” What he implied was the requirement of the same level of dedication to finding other people including people of color and Black people.

In the HBO show, they attempt to shine a light on, of course, Black people who are missing. The sisters use their life experience to help solve some of the most egregious missing person cases involving non-white people.

Participants in the series include John Walsh, founder of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; Vince Warren who is executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights; Dr. Renee Murrell who is an FBI victim specialist; Glenn Kirschner, former Assistant D.A.; Debra Sines, former Assistant U.S. Attorney; and Thomas Stack, Baltimore’s head of trafficking.
