Showtime’s The Chi returned for its fifth installment on June 26, 2022, and there appeared Nia Jervier as “Tierra” — the poised, polished, and driven god-niece of Douda, whom he recruited for a rebranding effort.
But she wasn’t the only newbie, the show also introduced Carolyn Michelle Smith as Deja (Shaad’s new love interest), L’lerrét Jazelle as journalist Fatima, and Antonyah Allen as Simone (Kevin’s new classmate).
Also, returning this season were cast members Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, and Curtiss Cook.
According to Showtime’s official page, season 5 of The Chi “delves deeply into the many joys and complications of Black love: relationships, children, career, community, and self.”

Nia Jervier Career
TV shows and movies might be new to Nia Jervier but she’s been performing in the theatre ever since she was 8. Caching the acting bug after her first visit to City Lights Youth Theatre in New York, she started performing at the musical theater every Saturday and Wednesday until she graduated from High School.
From musicals and plays including Once On This Island, The Apple Tree to The Music Man, Nia has appeared in numerous works. “It was the most magical of places to me. I fell in love with the theater there. It’s where I developed the heart of an artist,” she recalled.
Fast forward to years of theater and a brief break from it, Nia then landed her first big role as “Kelsey Phillips” on Dear White People in 2017. And 2 years later, she was then asked to portray “Vanessa” in the Twenties season 2.
Created and written by Waithe, Twenties featured a black girl who chased her dreams of being a screenwriter in Los Angeles alongside her two best friends, Marie and Nia.
According to Nia, the most rewarding part about her job was the ability to tell stories that are powerful enough to change the atmosphere of people’s hearts, and also the fame that came with it. Her proudest moment in life was going to the 2015 Cannes film festival for an amazing short film Lady Like.
Her inspirations include classic music from Cole Porter, Jazz standards, Bob Marley and Dina Washington. Also, she is obsessed with Diahann Carroll. “She is my biggest inspiration. Her style. Such grace! She’s the first black woman to win a Tony Award for Best Actress on Broadway, and the first black woman to star in her own weekly primetime television series,” the actress praised her icon.
When Nia isn’t filming, she keeps herself busy with interior design, particularly vintage and antiques. The actress even had a boutique design company called House of Jervier. What’s more, Nia even confessed she would absolutely be an interior designer if she wasn’t acting.
Trivia: Nia’s first-ever musical gig was at City Lights Youth Theatre. There she sang The Wind Beneath By Wings.
