On Netflix’s show ‘Emily in Paris’ Philippine plays Sylvie Grateau, head of a luxury marketing agency who loves overdressing, smoking, mocking political correctness, and being a mean individual. Philippine shared with NY Times, that she loved being overdressed in ‘Emily in Paris.’
But, there is a story on how Philippine landed the part in the show. It all happened by chance. The creator of the show Darren Star asked Juliette Ménager, an international casting agent to find an actress, who could play the character. They were looking for someone in the age range between 35 and 45.
Juliette contacted Philippine and told her although she was too old for the character her energy made her look younger and wanted to try her for the role. To prepare for the part, Philippine went through movies with Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Barbra Streisand.
In an interview with ‘Vogue France’, Philippine revealed that she is a little bit of the character she portrayed on the show. She shared, “A little bit, yes. You never choose a character by chance. I can have her freaky side a few times. But otherwise, I don’t share his other personality traits at all. She reminds me of many women I knew as a child because my mother worked in the fashion industry. Very tough women of power who were afraid of growing old.
