RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 hit the small screens on January 6, 2023, and as always there appeared world-class drag queens competing for that upped cash prize of $200 thousand. Among them, Princess Poppy brought beauty and an eccentric edge to the competition, making her seem like a possible victor for the season.
Even on her IG in Dec 2022, she said, “The Princess is here!” before promoting the show.
However, despite her confidence and achievements, Poppy feels insecure about her career milestone.“I never thought that reaching my goal and my dreams would come with the fear of losing my life,” she said before adding, “I thought maybe I might flop on the show or people might say I’m a loser, but the fact that I could lose my life is horrifying. I’m really, really concerned for the future of drag.”
Explaining the matter further, the drag star recalled being super excited, “Oh, I’m going to be on Drag Race, it’s going to be fun.” But now, she’s nervous about how she’s going to “exit a club if someone comes in.” Or, what’s she “going to do if they have a gun or a bomb.”
As for all who demonize drag performers, Poppy says “we’re not looking to groom any children. We’re not looking to turn anybody trans or gay into a drag queen.”
But looking at the bright side, Poppy’s happy to be performing. And the fact that she has to fill in the shoes of season 14 finalist Lady Camden — known for mixing her skills as a ballet dancer with a very San Francisco genderqueer aesthetic — gets her adrenaline rushing even more.

As for her drag name, she picked “Princess” because she feels that her drag is part of royalty, and “Poppy” comes from the alliteration of the letter “P” — she wanted a name with “PP” as initials.
Trivia: Poppy’s drag mother is Terra Tyler. Also, she already had a drag daughter.

Princess Poppy is a full-time drag artist. Or as she likes to call a “comedy queen who just so happens not to look like sh*t” touring the north.
The last we checked, her shows were scheduled at Legacy in Boston, MA (Jan 12), Roscoe’s in Chicago, IL (Jan 13), The Manor in Fort Lauderdale, FL (Jan 20), and ReBar in Houston, TX (Jan 29).

Looking back, Poppy first started drag at the age of 18, after years of being influenced by Drag Race. In 2019, she then moved to San Francisco and started drag at the competition her drag mother hosted with Brita from Season 12. She’s been hosting a weekly brunch at 620 Jones ever since and has developed the pastel-pretty, fairy-tale look that befits her name.
According to her, if you come to one of her shows, be prepared for femininity, beauty, harassment, raunchiness, and a tiny bit of stink (from sweat). “I do everything like I’ll host, I’ll do a little be of stand up, I’ll do a little bit of numbers. Um, I do comedy pretty much though out everything I do. But I’m always trying to make sure that I look fantastic,” she further explained.
