Rael Braverman first met the love of his life, Suella Braverman, in 2015, thanks to their shared love of politics. “We met through some mutual friends, and then she invited me for a day in parliament,” Rael recalled.
Well, as far as first dates go even Rael admitted that their’s certainly was an “unusual one.” But since he was always interested in politics, he decided to “just go along” with it.
Luckily for Rael, he thoroughly enjoyed their first date, and they agreed to meet up again. The duo then had their first “proper” date a few weeks later and the rest is history.
According to Rael, it was Suella’s charm and personality that caught his attention. While for Suella it was Rael’s supportiveness that did the magic. “Rael has just been so supportive of me in Fareham. I think the day I realized he was the one when he came out delivering leaflets for the election in the pouring rain,” she explained.
Fast-forward to October 2017, the lovebirds then held their engagement (while on holiday in Cyprus) and got married in February 2018 at the House of Commons. As for the wedding celebration, they were joined by family and friends at the Holiday Inn in Titchfield, Fareham.
Over 100 residents including many local councilors joined them for a celebratory meal and party.
“Had a lovely day yesterday celebrating my wedding to Rael Braverman in Fareham. Thanks to the many family, friends & @FarehamTories for making it so memorable,” Suella also made a tweet after the celebration.
Talking about their kids, Rael and Suella welcomed their first and second children in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
During Suella’s first pregnancy, with George, she even made the headlines as she was able to carry on her voting duties as an MP while on maternity leave due to a proxy scheme that had been developed around the same time. Later, she then praised the scheme as “important” as it allowed MPs to “vote as normal while looking after their newborn children.”
Likewise, during Suella’s second pregnancy with her daughter, Suella again made it to the news for having to change the law, just to guarantee her employer, HM Government, would pay her while she takes her time off with her new baby.
So, after the maternity allowance bill was passed, dubbed “Suella’s Law,” Suella became the first cabinet member to have a baby while in the office and also get paid. Pleased with her 6 months maternity leave, Suella later said, “This will be a fascinating story to tell my daughter one day (about) what went on in Parliament to allow her to have some time with her mummy.”
