Who Were Actress Rain Spencer Parents?
Born Nina Rain Spencer, the Summer I Turned Pretty actress was born to her parents Chauncey Spencer and Jaye “Carla” Cherry or Carla Cherry. In the show, Rain plays the role of Taylor, Belly’s childhood best friend who comes to visit her in Cousins for her birthday.
According to Famous Birthdays, Rain was born on 21 February 1999. So, she is 24 years old. At just eight years old, she told her mom she needed to get an agent because she knew she had what it took to make it in Hollywood. “It’s not the easiest career to pursue, but I never planned on doing anything else,” she told Grazia Magazine.

On Mother’s Day 2018, Rain Spencer celebrated her mom Carla Cherry or Jaye Cherry via an IG post. On the post, she wrote, “Happy mamas day. This woman has saved my ass so many times. The strongest, most brutally honest, hilarious, beautiful person inside and out. So much love and light,” while posting a throwback pic of the two.
Whereas Jaye reciprocated the sentiment via Facebook on Daughter’s Day 2022. She wrote, “Happy Daughter’s Day to Rain Spencer. Proud most of who you are on the inside.”
Jaye was born in December 1974. So, as of 2023, she is 48 years old. Per her LinkedIn, she is working as Digital Marketing Consultant in California. Carla is running her own company named Carla Cherry Productions. From 2017 to 2018, she also worked at Ovation LLC as a Senior Producer.
Carla’s reported on her LinkedIn that her earliest job was as an editor for Participant in 2012. She worked as a producer/editor at TEN: The Enthusiast Network in 2013. Furthermore, she also worked at Appetities as TEN: The Enthusiast Network.

Meet Chauncey Spencer, Rain Spencer Father
Chauncey Spencer is the father of actress Rain Spencer. The patriarch of the Spencer family was born on 20 August 1974. He was the son of Joel Spencer and Margie McNeely Spencer in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Back in his day as a young man, Chauncey was a DJ per the pic shared by Rain. According to Chauncey’s Facebook, he attended New Hanover High School. For higher education, he joined Penn Foster, HGTC Science Department, The Art Institute of Charlotte Students & Alumni, and Abtech Computer.
As for his career, Chauncey was a former specialist E-4 at U.S. Army from 1994 to 2000. He was stationed at Idar-Oberstein, Germany. He served as a tattoo artist at Pitbull Tattoo & Piercing Clinic. Chauncey also worked at Dreamriderz custom skateboards.
Sadly, Chauncey is no more. He passed away in July 2020 in an auto accident. Rain announced her dad’s death writing, “Too soon dad. Love you unconditionally. Visit me in my dreams. Raise hell in heaven if that’s a real thing. Love you.”
Besides his wife and kids, he was also survived by his brother Michael Spencer; uncle Worth Spencer, and aunt Vickie Spencer.
