The name Rhone Talsma is going down on “Jeopardy” history after ending Amy Schnider’s continuous winning streak of 40 days. Even Rhone was “in shock” after his win. After the win, Rhone shared, “This is my favorite show. I was so excited to be here and I just wanted to do my best I did not expect to be facing a 40-day champion, and I was excited to maybe see someone else slay the giant. I just really didn’t think it was going to be me, so I’m thrilled.”
In Wednesday’s episode, Rhone finished in first place with $29,600 while Amy made $19,600. His path to the winners’ circle was foreshadowed after he nailed a key Daily Double clue late in the Double Jeopardy! round, which kept the game competitive heading into Final Jeopardy! (where Schneider led Talsma $27,600 had $17,600).
The Final Jeopardy category was “Countries in the World” and the clue read: “The only nation in the world whose name in English ends with an H, it’s also one of the 10 most populous.” The correct response: “What is Bangladesh?”.
Rhone used to watch the show and played alone every day. “As you do that, some things come up repeatedly, so you start to memorize those things even if you don’t know the material.”
Speaking with Parade, Rhone revealed that he has been watching Jeopardy his whole life. His first memory of the show was Ken’s winning streak when he was a kid. Because his uncle was a huge Jeopardy fan, he had memories of watching it with his uncle.
He added, “I’ve always had a knack for trivia and memorization, especially with geography, history, and social sciences, which come up a lot on the show. I realized when I was getting older that I was getting a lot of the clues right. By the time I was out of college, I decided it was my dream and I wanted to be a contestant. I started taking the online test once a year for the past five years. 2021 was the first year I got invited to audition, and I made it to the stage.”

He stated on his LinkedIn that in December 2015, Rhone Talsma started working at Advanced Resources as CyberNavigator. He designed, marketed, and led group literacy classes including developing technology-related educational materials.
In August 2017, Rhone started working as an Access Services Intern at Skokie Public Library. He was responsible for assessing bibliographic records of graphic novels and completed copy and original cataloging to improve browsability and completeness of records.
Rhone also led the original cataloging of government documents and ephemera using DublinCore and created a digital exhibit for these materials using Omeka.
After quitting his job at Advanced Resources, Rhone started working for Chicago Ridge Public Library as Multimedia Librarian. He stated that his job is to independently provide client services at a high traffic public service desk, including administering and troubleshooting consumer technology; providing consultation and assistance in-person and over the phone, guided by values of equity, empathy, and suspension of judgment.
Moreover, Rhone also devised and conduct classes for a community with low digital literacy, on topics such as social media, job searching, and internet safety. Furthermore, he also helped develop documents and signage for education and the promotion of services.
Speaking with “Chicago Sun-Times”, Rhone explained about his job, “public librarianship is like a kitchen-sink kind of job. Other duties that come up stretch what you do in this kind of work. It’s the perfect job for me because every day is different.”
When he is not busy at the library, Rhone enjoys making music. He sang in choirs throughout high school and college and continues to sing as a member of Chicago’s Wicker Park Choral Singers.
Rhone is also a proficient piano and bass guitar player. He is also on SoundCloud. He is a former member of DePaul University Singers (2011-2012), a member of Wicker Park Choral Singers since 2012, and a founding member of the common pulse.
In 2011, Rhone received the third-place prize in the Illinois Music Education Association’s choral composition contest for his setting of Walt Whitman’s “A Clear Midnight.”
Rhone is a graduate of DePaul University with a BA in Women’s and Gender Studies in 2015. He graduated with a Master of Library & Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018.

Teddy Appeared on Rhone’s social for the last time in August 2017. They celebrated their anniversary in early August that year. Rhone announced, “bon anniversaire, mon petit lion”.
