As a Californian native, Alyssa always had a passion for the sport. By the time she had graduated high school, she knew how to play volleyball, basketball, and softball. While she was at Californian State University studying psychology, she played softball as the first baseman for the Sacramento State Hornets.
Alyssa first joined San Francisco Giants in 2014 as an intern for the baseball operations department. In January 2020, she began serving the position of the assistant coach there.
In July 2020, Alyssa coached her first major league game during an exhibition game against the Oakland Athletics, which made her the first full-time female coach in MLB history.
The Giants coach first met her now-husband, Robert Abel Nakken, while they were at Woodland High School. Alyssa fell in love with Robert at first sight, thanks to Robert’s fantastic looks and athletic ability. While, at the time, no one would think there were any odds of Alyssa and Robert dating, one night Robert talked with Alyssa after a tough playoff loss and the two shared some giggles too, and everything changed from there.
Their relationship grew too fast. While Alyssa was figuring out her life, her boyfriend at the time Robert encouraged her to step away from the 9-5 lifestyle and explore different walks of life. Then, Rob took Alyssa on a weekend getaway to San Francisco and the rest is history.
The lovable duo got engaged in December 2020. Almost a year later, Robert and Alyssa tied the wedding knot on November 19, 2021.

Robert has an associate’s degree from the University of Arizona. The 34-year-old also graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of San Francisco in 2010, where he also played baseball. Upon his graduation from USF, he started coaching at his high school. As a coach there, he built his first travel ball program.
Alyssa’s husband Robert has also coached for Travelball organizations such as NCTB and SLU.
According to his LinkedIn handle, he has been working at Rhythm and Moves Inc. since September 2014.
Like his wife, Robert is a baseball coach as well. However, he is not in the Major League Baseball. Maybe that is why Robert also calls himself the second-best coach of his own house.
Robert coaches his baseball team at his own baseball school, which he founded in 2019. He serves as the president of the youth training school called CRABS (Coach Robert Abel Baseball School). As a president there, he provides the San Francisco community with top-notch baseball training for individuals, groups/teams, and coaches.
