Robert Card, who was initially a person of interest in mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine has been confirmed as the suspect in the mass shooting that left at least 18 people dead and 13 people injured. According to investigators, Robert is wanted on eight charges of murder, and an arrest warrant was issued Thursday morning. According to police, the numbers will probably rise when the identities of the other victims are confirmed.

The police department in Lewiston labeled Robert as “should be considered armed and dangerous.” After the shooting, Robert fled the scene of the crime, according to the police.
Authorities have released many photos of the shooting suspect and urged anyone who recognizes him to get in touch with them. Images of the man, who was wearing a brown shirt, black jeans, and light shoes, were posted on social media by the Lewiston Police Department on Wednesday night. He was seen clutching a semiautomatic weapon at one of the shooting scenes.
According to the law enforcement warning, Robert lately claimed to be having mental health problems, including hearing voices, and he made threats to shoot up a military base in Saco. The alert also stated that he was reportedly admitted for two weeks this past summer to a mental health facility.
A representative for the New York Army National Guard told CBS News on Thursday that Card was “behaving erratically” and that officials of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 3rd battalion had informed garrison staff of this in mid-July. While receiving training at the U.S. Military Academy, the battalion was billeted in the Camp Smith training facility located in Cortlandt.
“Out of concern for his safety, the unit requested that law enforcement be contacted,” the spokesperson said in the statement. “New York State Police responded and transported Card to Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy for medical evaluation.”
“I have known Rob my whole life,” Robert’s sister-in-law Katie O’Neill, made the statement to the Daily Beast. “He is quiet but the most loving, hardworking, and kind person that I know. But in the past year, he had an acute episode of mental health, and it’s been a struggle.”
Regarding hearing voices, Katie added, “He truly believed he was hearing people say things.” ”
This all just happened within the last few months,” then added, “He would get mad and claim that we didn’t believe him. We tried to listen to him and tell him that nobody was talking about him. Yesterday, as the story was unfolding, we prayed that Rob had nothing to do with this. But when we heard the two places where the shooting happened, my husband rushed home.”
Authorities reportedly discovered a message at Card’s house, but the New York Daily News reports that they are still attempting to interpret it. They kept the contents a secret.

Robert Card attended the University of Maine as an engineering student but it was unknown whether he graduated from the school.
Robert was enlisted in the army in the winter of 2002 while working toward a degree in engineering technology at the University of Maine. He never graduated as he committed to the Armed Forces. He ranked up to become sergeant first class and earned the Army Achievement Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
Robert is now a first sergeant and has the military specialty of “petroleum supply specialist.” Most recently he was assigned to the Third Battalion 304th Infantry Regiment in Saco, Maine.
Haley Britzky, a CNN Pentagon correspondent, wrote on X, “The Army confirms that Robert Card, a person of interest in the shootings last night in Maine, is currently a sergeant first class and petroleum supply specialist in the Army Reserve. He enlisted in 2002 and has no deployments on record.”
The Army told Fox News, “His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal x2, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.”
A screenshot featured a remark discussion suggesting that Card was a member of the US Army till a recent time.
“Another wild bus trip think we’re too old, aren’t we? Good to hear from you just about to finish up my 20 years in the army got my letter just need them to approve my packet,” Robert posted to a friend 20 weeks before the shooting.
“The friend referred to him as “Sargent Rob” and congratulated him on “20 years.” He asked, “Anyone left from the original 947th/439th? We will have to catch up sometime for a beer, it’s been about 11 years.”
