Roland Abante put a spell on America’s Got Talent even before he performed his song. Speaking through an interpreter, the Filipino explained he worked as a fisherman in the morning and drove a cargo bike in the afternoon to transport people around town.
Then, as Heidi Klum asked him why decided to audition for AGT, Roland immediately broke down in tears and said, “This is my big dream to be here.” This was when he got an on-stage hug from Klum before he launched into his stunning rendition of “When a Man Loves a Woman.”
Sung in the style of Michael Bolton, Roland left the crowd speechless with his deep and soulful voice. Obviously, his audition ended with a standing ovation from both the judges and the audience.
“I don’t think you could’ve done it better,” Heidi praised him. “You left it all on that stage, you were amazing. You should be very proud of yourself.”
Likewise, Sofia Vergara reckoned, “I have a feeling you’ll going to have to stop fishing because this is where you need to be.”
As for Simon, after giving two thumbs up, he confessed, “You were so nervous I genuinely thought for one moment you weren’t going to be able to do this. And then, that happened. And it made me love this audition even more. I really like you. That was a great audition. Really brilliant.” Then, he proceeded to the stage to hug the auditionee.
Lastly, Howie said, “We could feel your heart and I think that everybody just heard a life-changing moment.”
Thus, with this, Roland got four yeses, advancing him to the next round.
“There is no more space in my heart for the happiness and joy I feel right now,” he said before exiting the show.
