Who Are Rory Flack Parents?
William Flack and Dorothy Jackson welcomed Rory Flack into the world on April 28, 1969, in Belleville, Illinois. She is a former competitor and professional African American figure skater. Rory was raised in Phoenix, Arizona, moved to San Diego, California, where she lived until she was 21, and then spent 15 years in Wasilla, Alaska.
At age 5, Rory learned to skate. She first encountered Mabel Fairbanks, an African American figure skating pioneer, when she was 13 years old. Rory wanted to stop skating at a young age due to racism, but Fairbanks gave him the motivation to keep going. At the US National Championships two years later, Debi Thomas, Bobby Beauchamp, and Rory Flack skated their way to three medals.
Three African Americans competed at the Nationals for the first time, and they all received spots on the international team. At the US Championships in 1986, Rory won the junior bronze medal. She participated in international competitions as well, taking up the silver in the 1987 Grand Prix International St. Gervais. The way she performed at the U.S.
Championships gained her widespread notice and allowed her to appear on Saturday Night Live with video. Figure skaters had never before appeared on the program. She suffered a back injury and was unable to compete two months before the qualifying competition for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. In the winter of 1991, she stopped competing in figure skating.
In addition to winning the US Open Professional Championship in 1991 and 1994 and the American Open Artistic Championship in 2002, Rory also represented Team USA in the 2006 CBS Ice Wars. Rory began competing professionally in figure skating in 1991. She relocated from California to Cincinnati and participated in the Broadway on Ice show. She created a routine, went to an audition, and was chosen for a solo spot.
Ralph Burghart, a 1992 Olympian and eight-time Austrian National Champion, was her husband from 1992 to 2007.
Rendell Burghart, born on September 28, 1993, and Remington Burghart, born on January 17, 1997, are her two boys. Rendell, who majored in film and played tennis at Eastern Washington University, graduated on the Dean’s List.
Remington competed for club ESI-Skating, SkateAustria International Competitive Team, and won the 2011 United States National Juvenile Bronze Pairs Medal.
