This is also awesome because you get to travel and meet up in all these great places, and it’s cool. I am lucky I found the right person. We don’t find it difficult at all – it’s a part of us now, which is cool.”

Even until August 2020, when Shalom sat for a one-on-one with Independent. ie, she was “very happy” in the long-distance relationship even though the constant work-related travel had made the relationship difficult. Even so, “difficult” was not the word Shalom chose to describe her romance. Instead, she said — “When you find the right person, you’d be surprised how easy it is. The long-distance also makes those times when we are together more special and fun”.

Who Are Shalom Brune-Franklin Parents?

Shalom Brune-Franklin’s parents are Ingrid Brune and Phillip Franklin. They raised their kids (Shalom and her brother) on a council estate near London.

Shalom has discussed how they lived in a little flat and she shared a room with her brother her whole life. She recalled that her mum was a “hustler” who worked as a nail technician and braided people’s hair and her dad worked for an electrical distribution company. “We got by, I would say. It wasn’t a lavish upbringing, but there was a lot of love and we were close as a family.”

Then, when Shalom was 15, her parents decided to move to Perth in Australia thinking that they would rather struggle by the sea than struggle in a little flat in England. Especially the parents felt that their surroundings were holding them back. And indeed the change of scene just gave them the drive to do what they wanted to do — as the dad became a chef and the mum got an incredible job with the government.

It was however not with her parents that Shalom was living with but with her grandparents. She was living in London with her grandparents until her dearest grandmother passed away sometime in 2020.

Her grandmother was Thai and it was she who taught Salome who to cook including Thai food. So, Shalome was pretty shaken when after her she was gone.
