Hullraisers, which will be coming to Channel 4 on April 12th, features an all-star female cast. Besides Taj Atwal, Sinead Matthews (plays the role of Paula) and Leah Brotherhead (plays the role of Toni) star as the lead of the show. Taj Atwal Career
Born and bred in Norwich, Taj relocated to New York at 7 after her mom lost her job at Rowntree’s factory in Norwich and was offered a new job in York. There she studied at Easingwold School and even participated in various stage productions.
Hullraisers star left her home at an age of 16 and started living with volunteers from the homeless charity organization named Safe and Sound Homes.
From 2004 to 2007, Taj studied at York College. She graduated from there with distinctions in both a National Diploma qualification in Acting and a National Award in Dance. After receiving funds from Dance and Drama Awards, Taj joined Guildford School of Acting to hone her acting skills.
Taj began her acting career at the age of 21 with the hit British series Stella. She played the role of Jasminder Choudary in Stella. From there, she went on to act on shows such as In The Club (played by Jasmin Sidhwa), Thunderbirds Are Go (Madeline Lemaire), Pitching In (Reshma), Cold Call (Hana).
The British actress joined the show Line of Duty in 2019. She was a series regular until the sixth season’s premiere of the show. Taj, whose role was vital in Season Five’s investigation into Operation Pear Tree, was found missing in season 6 of the show. However, Taj revealed that she could not continue with the Line of Duty because she could not make the dates work alongside her new project, The Syndicate. She told, “‘I had to choose and it was not an easy decision,” to BBC Radio 5. Taj plays Roxy Varma in The Syndicate.
Over the year, Taj has also acted in some movies. Some of her powerful performances came in A.K.A Nadia, Death on the Tyne, and The Protege. Line of Duty actress is set to appear in Martin Campbell’s new movie, Memory, starring Liam Neeson, Monica Belluci, and Guy Pearce.
Taj’s stage roles include Fury in Maryland, Rita in Rita, Sue and Bob Too, Rita in Educating Rita, Meenah in East Is East, Sophie in All Our Daughters, and Nafeesa in Small Fish.
