Animal Planet’s Pitbulls and Parolees saw the Villalobos Rescue Center making its mission to save the lives of pit bulls and help them find their forever homes and have given a second chance to parolees, who make up their staff and volunteers. While the rescue center ran for 30 years the show ran for 18 seasons.
One of the parolees, Darius joined the show in 2017 in season 11 of the show. In the show, Darius wasn’t able to hide the joy he felt working with dogs. Darius was on work release from Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, Louisiana. He landed a part in the show immediately where he worked with the rescue center’s owner Tia Torres.
Tia is hoping that Darius will take the place of Country Matt, who departed for New York and was the center’s first-ever work-release case. In the video, Tia demonstrates to Darius how to properly teach a pit bull by putting his hand near the animal’s face to prevent nips. He grinned like a little child and said, “Oh, man,” when he finally got the pit bull to sit like Tia had shown him how.
Darius also spoke about so much that he learned while working at the rescue center. He says, “Jail actually taught me to understand what’s respect, what’s not, what’s integrity. Jail actually grew me to be a respectable young man.”
Fans also admired Darius’s enthusiasm to work as a vet tech. After his debut on the show, one fan wrote, “You can do this Darius!!! Keep your eyes on the ball and move forward. I have no doubt you will be one of the best vets in the country, just put your mind to it. Luvs Hugs and Prayers.”

The opportunity to work with someone like Tia is amazing, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time, he says of his position at the Villalobos Rescue Center. He adds, “To deal with someone as well versed in animal care is not only a blessing, but it’s also something a lot of people need. Someone to motivate you, someone, to like give you that extra push and that extra ambition to do what you like doing.”
After his sudden disappearance, fans of Darius and the show inquired about what happened to the man who showed so much potential to become a vet tech.
