Emma Busse is not the only child of her parents. There are a bunch of others. And they are Emma’s sisters Sofia, Olivia, and Breanna, and a brother named Sebastian.
While we don’t yet know about the others, Emma is the one we saw performing a showy version of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” during her American Idol audition. Judges tasked her again to do the “Happy Birthday” exercise without the vibrato and of course they then also invited her to the Hollywood Week round of competition.
When the theater performer auditioned in Las Vegas, judges loved her but not before making her realize that they would want her to unlearn some of her theater habits in order to thrive in the competition.
Moving on to the game, Emma focused to work on her confidence in the first part of Hollywood Week. She sang “My Mind” by YEBBA. For her final solo performance, she picked “Chasing Pavements” by Adele. And so she was booked as the Top 26 finalist. Then, in the Top 26 (Hawaii Round), she sang none other than the fan-favorite “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith.
American Idol started allowing Canadians like Emma to compete ever since its 18th season. And so Lauren Spencer-Smith became the first from the country to make it to the Top 20 of Idol but she could not make it past the first viewers-voted round. As for Emma, she gets to be called the fifth Canadian contestant to become a Top 24 semifinalist, after of course Lauren and the others: Nicolina, Cameron Whitcomb, and Tyson Venegas.
