American Idol: Who Are Emma Busse’s Parents?
Before her Hawaii Week performance on Idol, Emma Busse shared this story about her and her family visiting Aulani when she was super young. She remembered performing on the Aulani stage and feeling “so surreal”. So, clearly, her parents Rina and Richard Busse have been immensely supportive of her pursuing a career as she does. Keep reading to discover more about her parents.
Meet Rina Busse, Emma Busse’s Mother
From the American Idol stage, Emma Busse shared with everyone that her mother is a classically trained singer and stage performer. At that point, the matriarch had been teaching musical theatre in Burnaby city, in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada.
Speaking of Rina’s family background, she is the daughter of the late Maria Assunta (Susan)/AKA Maria Renzullo who passed on 27 May 2022. Her husband/Rina’s dad Francesco was still surviving at that point.
Rina in her family also has a brother named Carmine and a sister named Ingrid. The former is married to Adele and they have two kids Francesco and Stefano. Ingrid, on the other hand, is married to Carlo with Gianluca, Isabella, Samantha, and Cody.
Rina’s mom was born in Sarno, Provincia di Salerno in Italy. Later, as a young teen, she immigrated to Canada. They say she was always determined to make a better life for her family. So, in her obituary, it’s been written that with her husband Francesco, she worked tirelessly first at Nelson Cleaners, then as owner of Bianca Maria Italian Delicatessen for more than 33 years. Even today, her children believe her to be a force of nature, a champion of the underdog, and a successful businesswoman who gave back selflessly to her church and the community around her.
At last, let us also tell you that before getting married and adopting her husband’s last name went around as Rina Renzullo.

How Many Children Do Emma Busse’s Parents Have?
Emma Busse is not the only child of her parents. There are a bunch of others. And they are Emma’s sisters Sofia, Olivia, and Breanna, and a brother named Sebastian.
While we don’t yet know about the others, Emma is the one we saw performing a showy version of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” during her American Idol audition. Judges tasked her again to do the “Happy Birthday” exercise without the vibrato and of course they then also invited her to the Hollywood Week round of competition.
When the theater performer auditioned in Las Vegas, judges loved her but not before making her realize that they would want her to unlearn some of her theater habits in order to thrive in the competition.
Moving on to the game, Emma focused to work on her confidence in the first part of Hollywood Week. She sang “My Mind” by YEBBA. For her final solo performance, she picked “Chasing Pavements” by Adele. And so she was booked as the Top 26 finalist. Then, in the Top 26 (Hawaii Round), she sang none other than the fan-favorite “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith.
American Idol started allowing Canadians like Emma to compete ever since its 18th season. And so Lauren Spencer-Smith became the first from the country to make it to the Top 20 of Idol but she could not make it past the first viewers-voted round. As for Emma, she gets to be called the fifth Canadian contestant to become a Top 24 semifinalist, after of course Lauren and the others: Nicolina, Cameron Whitcomb, and Tyson Venegas.
