Niko Terho’s character Dr. Lucas was one of these brand new “misfit interns,” portrayed as someone with a great mind but not with the grades to match. He’s “the charming black sheep of his family,” the Deadline reported. Just like many in his family, he wanted to prove himself as a surgeon.

Taking more about his character, Niko shared that Dr. Lucas “comes from a family of surgeons and they’re all really good at what they do, so he’s always kind of been in their shadow.” And now, he was ready to prove himself. Tired of being the black sheep of this family, Lucas was motivated to make a name for himself outside the family legacy.

However, Meredith and Amelia didn’t believe Lucas had what it took to be a surgeon. They even called Dr. Lucas to be Derek’s “favorite nephew” after overhearing a conversation during a rare organ transplant.

In the ep,  Derek’s recited a line that made clear McDreamy’s legacy was very much still alive. To which, Lucas replied, “It’s a beautiful day to save lives,” repeating the words his uncle Derek first spoke years ago.

Four new residents joining Niko were Adelaide Kane ( Dr. Jules Millin), Midori Francis (Dr. Mika Yasuda), Harry Shum Jr. (Benson “Blue” Kwan), and Alexis Floyd (s Dr. Simone Griffin).

Before appearing on Grey’s Anatomy, Niko Terho appeared in 4 movies and TV shows.

His first was as “Andy” in the 2019 short film Howard — a  story based on the life of Kimo and Ben (Both gay. Both Mormon.)

The same year he then graced the TV series, Sweetbitter, as “Ethan.”

In 2020, Niko was then cast as the lead “Harry Turpin” in the TV movie The Thing About Harry. The 1h25m movie was all about Two high school enemies forced to drive together to a friend’s engagement party on Valentine’s Day.

Later that year, he then appeared as “Jeff” in the movie Sno Babies — all about a 16-year-old heroin-addicted honor student who hides her addiction from her family.

Finally, in 2022, Niko landed the role of “Dr. Lucas,” one of the residents on Grey’s Anatomy.

Recalling the filming experience, Niko admitted that he felt like he was relatively new to the acting world. “It’s pretty crazy. It just all happened so quickly that you kind of get sucked into the whirlwind of it all, and you don’t really have a lot of time to think,” he explained. 

Sometimes, he even got lost in thoughts and found himself back on the set. “So, you took a step back and you’re like, ‘Wait.’ You see all the cameras and everything. You’re like, ‘We’re shooting Grey’s Anatomy right now. This is pretty remarkable!’” he added.

If Nika wasn’t an actor, he would have been a soccer player. From 2012 – 2013, he even played the “attacker” position at CONCACAF U17 for several teams.
