Viviana Hollenbeck Job
According to her LinkedIn, Viviana is the co-owner of Blue Ox Millworks. She was fearlessly supportive towards her husband during the time of economic recession in the 70s. Before Viviana met her husband, Eric founded a logging company with 3 partners and a $300 bank loan.
They used that money to buy a used chainsaw, a set of chokers, half a tank of gas, and a little blue truck that they dubbed Ophelia Bumps. They rented a building which was an old North Mountain Power Company building for $50 a month to store their truck and cables. The building started falling apart by 1973 and with the help of a bank, they bought the property with payments of $600 a month.
Viviana helped her husband to run the business during the time of recession, theirs was the only business that wasn’t affected by it. Moreover, it thrived from salvage logging company to encompass a full production millworks shop, smithy, foundry, apothecary, print shop, ceramics, stained glass, and fabrics studio, working history museum, high school, veteran’s program, radio station, and a nonprofit organization.
Now, Blue Ox Millworks is a landmark in itself in Eureka, California, and Eric’s mastery in the woodworking craft allowed him to reach that height of success. Follow Blue On on Facebook (@blueoxmillworks) and Instagram (@blueoxmillworks). It is one of only eight Victoria mills in the country.
Viviana, along with her husband, also runs Blue Ox Community High School, an alternative school for at-risk teens in conjunction with the Humboldt County Office of Education. Initially, they met each other after Viviana moved from Southern California and logged with him one summer in their early days.
They ran the school for 19 years and started including other schools too from 2018.
