Discovery Plus’s Love in the Jungle premiered on May 8, 2022, and it saw 14 “sexy” singles, tired of modern dating and ready to let their animal instincts find love for them.
According to Austin, he didn’t know what he was signing up for. But when he was assigned an animal persona “koala” and explained the tasks, he was down for the challenge.
However, getting assigned a “koala,” things were a bit more challenging for him. Austin confessed that trying to get across his “goofy, fun, extroverted” personality and making deeper connections nonverbally was “one of the hardest things (he’d) ever done in (his) entire life.”
However, it definitely paid off. “I think it’s a very unique way to look at things,” Austin continued. Being stripped of every kind of “superficial peripheral thing,” Austin learned to trust his gut not only with physical attraction but emotional as well. He came to see the people around him not just as potential partners, but also as “a door to unlock an experience” or life lesson. “You just don’t give people the chance today with these dating apps,” he added.
The inaugural season of Love in the Jungle was filmed on a private eco-reserve in Colombia. From astronomically impossible tasks to outrageous animal mating rituals, the contestants were subjected to some cringeworthy moments only to discover if they could find a partner through physical connection alone.
“They’ll fight like aggressive toads, strut like flamingos, and bellow like red deer – all in the hope of finding love,” a press release read.
All excited for the premiere, Austin took it to his IG on April 21 to share a pic with all the contestants captioned, “What a bunch of animals! Watch May 8th on @discoveryplus.”

Finally, he got his bachelor’s of science in nursing (emergency room/trauma nursing) degree from Saginaw Valley State University in 2020.
Before Austin decided to fully pursue his career in nursing, he was building his career as a baseball player at Saginaw Valley State University. He played 1B and had an average GP of 7 and RBI of 3.
