Dale McKay is the winner of Top Chef Canada Season 1 which happened back in 2011. He made a return appearance on the show in 2013, serving as sous chef to third-season finalist Danny Francis.

Viewers then saw him in several other competitions including the second season of Iron Chef Gauntlet. We also saw him judge contestants on the BBQ competition series Fire Masters and on the Food Network competition series Wall of Chefs.

During the very first “London Calling” episode of Top Chef: World All-Stars, Dale McKay was not selected as one of the top or bottom entries in the Elimination Challenge and was therefore pronounced safe. But of course, he and Sara Bradley did manage to win the ‘Quickfire Challenge’ with their dish Langoustine with Seafood Broth & Gremolata.

The chefs in the competition were first given three minutes to pick five ingredients from the Top Chef pantry, which was not stocked with any proteins. Afterward, they were instructed to pair up and combine their pantry ingredients to cook a dish featuring UK seafood. In the end, Dale and Sara became winners and received immunity from elimination. Reviewing the very episode, Dale took to his social media to gush that it was a happy beginning on the show, getting an early win with “the best partner and friend” Sara.

Teasing his clip from the show on his social media post, Dale also wrote “So fun to be back in the Top Chef Kitchen competing! Such an honor to be part of this group of talented chefs from all over the world.”

While it is not known as a fact, Dale McKay is believed to have made close to $10 million net worth by March 2023.

Diagnosed with dyslexia in grade one, he did not have an Italian grandma who passed down family recipes and taught him as most chefs do. There was also very little food culture growing up. So what brought him to culinary?

He actually dropped out of school at the age of 14 years old and moved across the country on his own. He started washing dishes and eventually worked his way to a fry cook at a chain restaurant. From there, he fell in love with food. Since then and he has dedicated the last 27 years of his life to food and hospitality in over 6 nations.

In this journey, he luckily had some very amazing mentors including Gordon Ramsay.

So, Dale, who moved to Vancouver at the age of 15 returned to his hometown to open a new restaurant in early 2013. He co-founded Ayden Kitchen & Bar with seasoned restaurateur and nationally acclaimed mixologist Christopher Cho. The collaboration has today grown to be the Grass Root Restaurant Group, which includes five restaurants and catering services. Dojo Ramen is their newest launch. It was founded in 2021.

Her name is Wendy and according to her son, she is the strongest, sweetest, most loyal, and most charming gal the prairies have ever produced. Showing a beautiful picture of her smiling while on a boat ride, he wrote “She raised the shit out of my brothers and I and still smiles like this?!? Heart of gold right?”. Not stopping there, Dale went on to write that he is taking applications to be her boyfriend. “Do you have a dad, uncle, or friend that is single? 60-70ish? Slide in my DM 🙂” he asked his followers.

Dale is also very fond of his two older brothers.

As of now, it was not clear if Dale had been married in the past. As of March 2023 though, he clearly was not. Also, he proudly admitted to being a single father to his son, Ayden.

Whenever Dale gets a chance, he praises his mother as the biggest influencer in his life. So, while doing that in an interview in January 2023, he explained how he did not really start to realize how much he was influenced by his mother until he became an adult and a single father.

Dale’s “baby boy” is all grown up now. He turned 21 years old on 9 March 2022. Dale said about him last year that he is so very proud of the lovely, intelligent, kind, sarcastic, ambitious young man he has become. “I love you with all my heart Bubs ❤️❤️❤️”, Dale added to it.

Dale actually named his first restaurant after his son. They are super close one can tell. And Ayden (on IG @ayden._.james) since very young has also followed his dad around in the kitchen.

When it comes to his son, Dale also always made it a point that he has the same upbringing as him, which is why he returned to Saskatoon in the first place.
