Dennis Garcia played “Jose Torres” on Chicago P.D. He was introduced in season 8, ep 4, titled “Unforgiven,” after Intelligence investigated the murder of police officer Mike Blaine. The investigation then led them to a woman named Maria, who claimed that Mike used to protect her from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Jose Torres.
Yes! Dennis’ character used to be a murder suspect.
So, after officer Halstead and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) tried to apprehend him, Jose took a bystander as a hostage. However, his escape attempt was unsuccessful and the ep ended with him being arrested and jailed for Officer Blaine’s murder.
However, in the following season, Jose was seen wearing a police uniform himself and working alongside the exact same detectives who arrested him. This meant, Chicago P.D. had a lot to unpack and tell the story about how Jose Torres went from criminal to crime fighter.
Especially, since Halstead and Upton assured Maria that Jose would be behind the bars “for a very long time,” something definitely big must have happened in a relatively short amount of time.
Actor Dennis Garcia Career
Dennis Garcia started his career back in 2004 appearing as Jared in the short movie Drag Queen Heist. Two years later, he then appeared as the “Tijuana Guy” in ep 2.4 of Mind of Mencia (2006).
Fast forward to 2013, Dennis then returned to the small screen as “Trevor” in Jaded the Series, and the next year he portrayed “Quique” in Barrio Boy (2014).
Finally, in 2017, Dennis landed his first One Chicago universe role as “Santiago Mendoza” in the episode “Lily’s Law” of Chicago Justice. The following year, he then went on to play “Camera” on a Chicago Med ep titled “This Is Now.”
Also, it seems that Dennis previously appeared on Chicago P.D season 6, ep 1 as a “uniform cop.”
Besides movies and TV shows, Dennis also has garnered quite a few theater production credits including Teatro Vista, Urban Theatre Company, Raska Theatre Company, Pegasus Theatre Company, and Shattered Globe Theatre.
Talking about his qualifications, Dennis is a Columbia College Chicago graduate who went on to study with Sanford Meisner’s apprentice, John Ruskin, at The Ruskin School Of Acting in Santa Monica. Also, he is a graduate of the South Coast Repertory Conservatory in Costa Mesa.
After completing his education, Dennis went on to work in Odyssey Theatre Ensemble for over 2 years, and also took an administrative/accounting job at The Sports Club/LA for over 10 years.
The last we saw him, he was working as a coach/advisor at the Performing Arts Studio.
Fun Fact: Dennis saved the day when Kristina Dalton was working her “buns off” to find a location for their final restaurant shot needed for Ferrarelle in 2020. He took them to Lincoln Center and set them up for a perfect “fake date.”
