Kim Weitsman and Adam Weitsman first met in the summer of 2000. At the time, Kim, who worked as a fashion model in New York, was visiting her father, an executive who was opening department stores near Owego. As for Adam, a friend of his who ran a Binghamton health club told him a woman was coming to the club whom he had to meet.
But on their first date, Adam confessed to Kim he was going to prison and asked her if she’d still want to see him. “What’d you do?” she asked. “Would you do it again?”
Four years later, Kim then him to Otisville Federal Prison, abandoning modeling for a career in scrap metal. Thereafter, Adam closed the bar and clothing store and sold his real estate. The shredder was running and income was up. On the other hand, Kim studied the business and learned more about metals — scrap materials, customers, contacts, and debt payments — from her incarcerated boyfriend.
After Adam was released, the two then tied to knot in 2006 and moved to an early 20th-century home in Skaneateles, NYC the next year.
Fast forward to 2023, Kim and Adam are happier than ever.
Adam Weitsman is a local entrepreneur and philanthropist born and raised in Owego, NY. After graduating from Long Island University, he opened his own art gallery in New York City and later returned home in 1995 to help run his father’s family-owned business.

In 2016, the duo also planning to open a new restaurant serving traditional Mexican cuisine down the street from The Krebs. The plan was to convert the building at 9 E. Genesee St into The Elephant and The Dove, a restaurant named for Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. This restaurant will then receive donations from The Krebs until it’s self-sustainable.
The last we checked, Kim and her husband were expected to pay about $800,000 for the building and another $600,000 to renovate it into The Elephant and The Dove.
But The Krebs wasn’t the only charitable organization, the couple was invested in. They also often attended fundraisers and made significant donations.
