David Knezevich is the husband of Florida woman Ana Maria Knezevich Henao who went missing during a trip to Spain. The husband was arrested and charged with kidnapping, according to the FBI.
Based in Madrid, Spain, Ana was last seen on February 2, the National Center for the Disappeared in Spain reports. Family members of the entrepreneur claimed that she was traveling during a trying divorce, which was confirmed by a police report that USA TODAY was able to get. About her disappearance, the husband, David, was taken into custody by the FBI and the Diplomatic Security Service on Saturday at Miami International Airport, as reported by CNN and NBC. His initial judicial appearance at Miami Federal judicial is still pending.
According to Juan Felipe Henao, Ana’s brother, she never arrived at the Madrid train station where she was supposed to travel to Barcelona with a companion.
Following a guy who spray painted the security camera at Ana’s Madrid apartment building who bore a resemblance to David, NBC reported that officials began to view David as a suspect in the case. In addition, a car he hired in Serbia was traceable to Ana’s street, and suspicious texts sent from her phone were linked to him.
Ana left Miami on December 26, 2023, and arrived in Madrid, according to a criminal complaint the FBI filed. Since February 2, nobody has been unable to get in touch with her, even her friend Sanna Rameau, who is relieved that David Knezevich has been arrested, according to CNN.
On February 2, 2024, the day Knezevich Henao vanished, Sanna Rameau texted her but never heard back. She told her pal she was going to remain in that evening after spending an hour on the phone with them around 8:30 p.m. Sanna reported to the authorities the next day that Anna had sent them an extremely strange text. She apparently met a man and intended to travel two hours outside of Madrid to visit his house. She also mentioned the sporadic phone service. This message seemed unusual, so Rameau called the police.
Sanna told CNN, “I’m hoping we are going to get some answers.”
According to the incident report, Ana informed the police that she and her husband were “going through a nasty divorce and there is a substantial amount of money on the line to be split up between the two and David is not happy about it.”
As previously reported by USA TODAY, the couple has been married for 13 years and together they run the computer assistance business EOX Technology Solutions Inc.

David was detained on May 4, 2024, at Miami International Airport, according to the Associated Press. He was reportedly “charged in connection with the Feb. 2 disappearance of his 40-year-old wife.”
According to NBC News, “at an unknown time on Feb. 2, a neighbor noticed that security camera lenses in Knezevic Henao’s building had been covered with black spray paint.” Even at one in the morning, the lights in her apartment remained on. Court documents obtained by NBC Miami show that David “resembles the man wearing a motorcycle helmet who spray painted the security camera lens outside Ana Knezevich’s Madrid apartment on Feb. 2. The man left an hour later carrying a suitcase.”
Four days prior to Knezevich Henao’s disappearance, authorities found that David had rented a Peugeot from a Belgrade, Serbia, automobile rental firm. After three days, a “Spanish driver reported that his license plates were stolen.” On February 2, a license plate reader outside Knezevich Henao’s apartment recorded a car with the stolen plates. A “Peugeot bearing the stolen license plates went through a suburban Madrid toll booth” a few hours later, according to security footage.
The driver’s face was covered by tinted windows. The car rental company informed authorities that Knezevich returned his rented car with the windows blacked more than a month later. Additionally, they mentioned that the car had “driven nearly 4,800 miles (7,700 kilometers).” In the fall of 2023, the FBI spoke with a woman from Colombia who claimed to have met Knezevich through a dating app.
He requested her to translate a text that Knezevich Henao had sent to her friend the morning she vanished, from English to Spanish.
Meanwhile, David’s attorney Ken Padowitz, declined USA TODAY’s request for comment.
