Most of the N*ked & Afraid: Castaways contestants appeared in previous eps of the franchise. But Andrew Shayde had already graced two seasons of the show, making him the most experienced contender.

Andrew Shayde On N*ked & Afraid: Castaways
Andrew Shayde, a seasoned reality TV veteran, is making a comeback in the latest addition to the N*ked and Afraid franchise, titled N*ked and Afraid Castaways, premiering on the Discovery Channel on July 30 at 8 pm ET.
In this thrilling series, nine survivalists find themselves stranded in the Pacific Ocean with only wreckage from a shipwreck, an abandoned military jeep, and crashed airplane remains as their tools. Divided into teams of three, they face scorching beaches and dangerous jungles.
Andrew’s return was highly anticipated after leaving the show in season 12 due to a tick bite. Eager to redeem himself, he had been promoting his episode on local media in Kentucky, where he worked as a Development Director at Arbor Youth Services
Initially, Andrew’s journey into reality TV started 20 years ago on The Amazing Race with his dad. Despite their early exit from N*ked and Afraid, he sought another chance to prove himself.
“I feel like gay Robinson Crusoe,” he said before entering the show. “I think other survivors surrounding me in these challenges would this, ‘Andrew is kind of peppy and he is kind of a little bit of teen spirit.’”
His “number one survival tip” is a positive mental attitude. “It’s an oldie but a goodie, and it’s something that everyone needs in tough circumstances,” Andrew said.
But to prepare for the N*ked and Afraid Castaways, Andrew had been taking unconventional measures, such as walking barefoot through his neighborhood to toughen up the soles of his feet. No wonder, his dedication to the show and his adventurous spirit have garnered support from those close to him, even if they find his methods a bit unusual.
Andrew Shayde Job
Andrew Shayde is a reality star and an actor who’s appeared in shows/movies such as Mountain Mafia (2012), Into the Woods (2006), Hope and Play (2004), and more.
But when Andrew wasn’t filming, he worked as an author at TidalWave Productions. Also, he recently left his job as the Director of Development and Communication at Arbor Youth Services.
Before this, Andrew worked as a Development Manager at JDRF International, Special Events Coordinator at Cascade AIDS Project, Program Coordinator at Equitas Health, and Youth Development Coordinator at The Manchester Center.
In his position as CAP’s Special Events Coordinator, Andrew planned and managed major events and fundraisers including an annual Art Auction, Bat ’n Rouge softball tournament, and AIDS Walk Portland.
AIDS Walk is one of Portland’s most iconic outdoor annual events. Outside of his job duties, he has served as Team Captain for the top fundraising team at the Walk six years in a row.
As for his education, Andrew attended Eastern Kentucky University from 1999 to 2002.

Who Are Andrew Shayde Parents?
Andrew Shayde was born to his parents, Lynn Beck and Dennis L Hyde. They turned 67 and 69 years of age respectively in 2023.
His mother Lynn was a Registered nurse at Baptist Health Lexington while his father Dennis was also a survivalist. In fact, the father/son spent their short run on The Amazing Race back in 2012.
Trivia: Andrew’s grandmother Lucille Hyde passed away on March 17, 2016, at the age of 86.

Andrew Shayde was two siblings, Chad and Ashlee.
Chad was born in Feb 1976. He worked as a Marketing manager at Catalyst Learning Company and resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife Christine Donnelly Hyde, and their two kids.
Ashlee stepped into this world in Oct 1983. She was married to Shane C Vanhoose (born: Nov 1977) and together, they share a son and a daughter.

Before we discuss Andrew Shayde’s love life, know that he’s been openly gay since 17. He’s been has been working in HIV/AIDS for almost 13 years and with Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) since 2010. The reality star even started an annual gay men’s empowerment retreat in 2006 that still exists today.
So, coming back to his dating life, Andrew married his partner Eric Shamo (born: Feb 1984) back in 2010, after 4 ½ years of dating. Sadly they divorced after a few years, and now Andrew’s in love with Russ Evers. The two started dating in Feb 2021
His current partner, Russ worked at Rentokil/Terminix. He’s the Former Director of Marketing at HealthStream, who popped up several times in the 2022 Kentucky Inspiration guide.
