But her problem was far more complicated than that. From 15-16 years of age, Jamie decided to stay as a “guy” since couldn’t imagine herself as a bald lady.
So, Angela began her treatment by examining Jamie’s scalp to see if she is a candidate for surgery. When confirmed, she then harvested 2860 grafts, and after 8 months of the procedure, Jamie was blessed with a natural feminine curved hairline. Also, she got the full recession region going into the top section, where it merged with the existing hair.
Seeing Angela work her magic is indeed satisfying. But this wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for TLC’s persistence. Yes! Angela initially ignored their calls thinking it was a scam. But as the calls persisted, the doctor eventually realized the show was genuine.
According to TLC, they chose Angela not only for her cutting-edge work but also because she was “a little bit eccentric.” The show wasn’t looking for someone whose persona screamed “doctor.” Rather, they wanted someone the patients could deeply connect to.

Decades later, with her mother’s encouragement, Angela then decided to further her education and become a doctor.
But initially, she wanted to become a nurse anesthetist. She changed her mind after she was allowed to work alongside two nurse anesthetists. The experience quickly made her realize that it wasn’t her ideal career.
