HGTV’s Battle on the Beach season 3 is here, and so are the house flippers competing to win a $50,000 prize to put toward a home renovation in real life. But Ashley Basnight isn’t exactly a house flipper. She mostly handled the woodwork adding to the house’s aesthetics.
Thankfully, Ashley wasn’t alone on her journey. The show paired the renovators into three teams as they were coached by celebrated mentors and design experts Taniya Nayak, Ty Pennington, and Alison Victoria.
These three teams were tasked to compete in weekly renovation challenges across three seaside homes with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. However, the properties weren’t identical. One house was 200 square feet larger than the others, so the teams went head-to-head in a kick-off challenge to determine which property they would overhaul.
Plus, each team only had a $90,000 budget to make it happen.
In the end, judges Bryan and Sarah Baeumler and a team of local real estate experts finally determined which team added the most value to their shorefront escape.
The premiere of Battle on the Beach season 3 saw kitchen and dining room makeovers that set the tone for each waterfront property’s facelift. Then as the season continued Ashley, her close friend Steve Lewis, and her co-contestants Ryan and Kelsey, and Ben Argall and Pete Meldrum, worked on living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces in the underwhelming beachfront digs to transform it from dull to dreamy.
Battle on the Beach season 3 was filmed in the idyllic-sounding locale of Surfside Beach, Texas.

This renovation started her career just in August 2016 after she couldn’t find a custom dining table in her area, nor anyone to build her one at an affordable price. Determined to get herself a custom table, she ran across an IG page of a woman who built furniture. Thereafter, she came across a woodworking community and soon, she was repurposing furniture.
Eventually, she bought herself a big saw and built her first dining table. The rest is history. Now, Ashley’s the owner of Handmade Haven LLC where she documents her do-it-yourself projects.

Prior to getting into the woodwork, Ashley worked as a software engineer at Boeing. Also, she continued to work that job until September 2021.
As for her education, Ashley got her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Elizabeth City State University in 2013. She then joined Missouri University of Science and Technology, where she got her Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering in 2016, Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management in 2019, and MS in Systems Engineering in 2020.

Ashley Basnight was born to her parents, Debbie and Winfred N Basnight.
Her mother, Debbie hails from South Mills, North Carolina. She worked as an Assistant Clerk of Superior Court at Currituck Clerk of Superior Court. Thanks to her hard work, Debbie was named the Clerk of the Year by the North Carolina Conference of Clerks of Superior Court in 2022.
Likewise, Ashley’s father, Winfred (born: Oct 1962) worked in the court. In fact, he received the title “Clerk of the Year” before Debbie. It was Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby who handed the 35-year veteran of the Currituck court system his title.
Before joining Court, Winfred attended Chowan College from 1980 to 1982 where he was a standout basketball player.
Debbie and Winfred were married on August 2, 1986. They are still in matrimony as of 2023.
As for Ashley’s sibling, her older brother Jeremy BasKnight was also a basketball player. He played for two years for Coach Walter Shaw’s team in nearby Shallotte, N.C. at Brunswick Community College. Now, he’s a father and lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Sadly, Ashley’s paternal grandfather, Winfred Basnight Sr. passed away on Feb. 20, 2006, at the age of 81.
