Beverly Kills, one of the 10 competitors in this season, is hailed as the youngest drag race contestant. Still managed to pack 3 years of experience as a drag queen in her resume. She has placed first in local competitions in her hometown of Gold Coast but now she is ready to show what she is made up of on national television.
For RuPaul’s Drag Race, Beverly was plucked out of her weekly residency at renowned Brisbane venue Fluffy to become the first Queensland performer to feature on the Stan reality show – the Australian and New Zealand spin-off of the hit show. She came out as a teenager to her family while in Catholic high school.
She discovered drag after a friend suggested she watch RuPaul’s Drag Race.
“I was lucky that a lot of people had the education and the understanding that being queer is a normal part of being in adult society. Everyone is different and it’s OK. I didn’t experience a lot of homophobia,” Beverly told a news outlet. “As soon as I came out, I realized I wasn’t just gay, I was sort of a gay plus. I expressed that through my art class in high school and eventually stumbled upon a TV show called RuPaul’s Drag Race”.
Beverly added more, “I ended up bingeing every single season over the school holiday period. I came to my final year of school a fully-fledged drag fan”.
About her experience on the show, Beverly added, “It felt like I was inside an episode. I remember thinking, I’m inside my TV box at the moment, this is so strange”.
Beverly told her fans to expect everything bigger, not just only hair, and costumes, but bigger drag and drama. She hopes that the show continues to encourage viewers to support their local drag community. She added, “Going on Drag Race is like the golden ticket of drag… but they were all once a local drag performer”.
