Caleb Farley lost his dad, Robert Farley in a house fire in August 2023. He was young when he also lost his mother Robin Farley.
Robert and Robin reportedly were high school sweet hearts. They met at Maiden High School and married in 1987. The pair had been married for 31 years. Two years after their marriage (1989), Robert and Robin welcomed their son Joshua. The 34-year-old was a track and field athlete at Appalachian State.
While both children excelled in sports, Robert described Joshua as the “quiet type.” “Small-town North Carolina always felt claustrophobic for him,” according to the publication. “He saw just how much more there was out there.”
Furthermore, Joshua’s LinkedIn profile describes him as a “project management professional with 10 years of experience in various technology and business environments.” The former athlete has been a Senior Project Manager at HIMSS since March 2022 and has previously worked for organizations such as Bank of America.
When Caleb was in junior high his mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer.
“To me, it was never a big deal,” Caleb told ESPN. “In the household, it was always something that was going to get solved. I was a kid, but I thought I knew she was going to get healed and there’d be a fairy-tale ending. And I’m glad it was like that because there was always happiness in the household.”
He also discussed how the event improved his connection with God.
“When I saw my mother go through that and believe that she could be healed and then I saw it come back and kill her, it hurt my faith in the beginning,” Caleb told ESPN in 2021. “But I believe you have to serve the Lord when it’s good and bad. I made the decision that I was going to trust God. I would be lost without him.”
Caleb had once hoped his mom could survive long enough to see him play a game for Virginia Tech, but she’d been gone eight months by the time he intercepted two passes against Florida State in his 2018 college debut.
More than three years after her passing, he’s found some solace in her absence. “She’s in a better place now because this world is getting evil. She shouldn’t have been here,” Caleb said. “Every day, the world grows further away from God.”
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, just after midnight, the Tennessee Titans star’s $2 million property about 28 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina, exploded. The explosion killed Caleb’s father, Robert, 61, and injured another, according to Kent Green, Director of Fire Services and Emergency Management for Iredell County.
