Great Chocolate Showdown is back on The CW for its fourth installment. Jacksonville native Charles Coakley Jr is one of the amateur chefs who has a background in theatre and music and is competing on the show. He is alongside nine others on The Great Chocolate Showdown, which premiered Saturday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.
Cooking and baking have always been Charles’s love. He began when he was a little child with his mother and has since continued to hone his technique. In order to do this, Charles created a food blog on social media. One day, he baked a cake and put it on his page. He claimed that after seeing the post, a representative of the production company for The Great Chocolate Showdown got in touch with him and asked him to submit an application. He claimed that at first, he believed it to be a scam.
“The lady was like, no, this is legit, please fill out this application, we’re interested in you applying for this show,” Charles told The Daily News. “I filled it out and then, a couple of days later, we were at the bank, and I was in the car, and I got an email that they wanted to do a video interview. We did the interview, and they called and told me late last spring that they wanted me to be on the show and I couldn’t tell anybody.”
The native of Jacksonville, who flew to Canada in August of last year to film, said it has been extremely tough to keep quiet about it for so long. The concert has finally arrived, thus the wait is over. On the day of the show’s premiere, Charles also celebrated his birthday.
“It has been a whirlwind,” Charles added. “I don’t know how it’s going to further my career yet because it just kind of happened.”

Charles Coakley Jr. is a managing member and owner at The Charles Coakley, Jr. Conservatory, LLC. The CCJ Conservatory is a Boutique Fine Arts Studio that specializes in Piano, Voice, Guitar, Violin, Cello, Group Music Classes, Art, and Theatre for all ages and abilities.
Charles was a former entertainment at Disney where he worked as a featured performer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a cruise ship, and all throughout the east coast.
