CNN’s award-winning journalist Drew Griffin who was serving the network as a Senior Investigative Correspondent has died at the age of 60. He was survived by his wife Margot Griffin. While investigative journalism was at the heart of Drew’s work, he often jumped into breaking news coverage – from mass shootings to devastating hurricanes. Among his more memorable on-air moments was during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, when he rescued a man by pulling him from a sinking pickup truck.
Colleagues remembered the veteran journalist as a kind, consummate professional who took the time to mentor younger reporters, cared deeply about his team – and was always ready to lend a hand. DiCarlo compared her time working with Griffin to “winning the career lottery.”
Other hobbies of the reporter included golf with friends and playing the trumpet. CNN’s Lisa Mirando also paid tribute to the grieving family and said that Drew’s loss is “immense for his wife, his family, his friends and for truth-tellers everywhere” as she shared her condolences to his loved ones. Likewise, This Morning co-anchor Poppy Harlow wrote that they had lost a “tenacious, curious, honest, dedicated and kind” colleague and sent her prayers to Margot and their children.
