She is the co-founder of Root Design Company. She told HGTV, “I can remember when we thought of the name Root Design. We had the name before we started the business. And we loved the word ‘root’ because it meant the source from which things grow. Yes, it started as a landscape company, but we felt like it lent itself to be whatever we wanted it to grow into.”
Christi and her husband began Root in 2004 operating out of their little home in Austin, Texas, the city in which they were both born and raised. Their work has grown to include all aspects of home design, boutique commercial projects, destination property development, and brand conception.

In March 2022, they recently celebrated their 22 wedding anniversary. Her husband announced their anniversary via an IG post, “22 years ago we were 22… and went on the craziest adventure yet”.

They have four gorgeous children as a result of their marriage. On March 15, 2022, their oldest child, Adelyn Elizabeth (as Cristi named her), turned 19 years old. Adelyn grew up enjoying outdoor activities such as skiing and fishing. She also performed at Pagosa Art Center.
In middle school, she was a star basketball player for Pagosa Pirates. In 2018, she underwent spinal reconstruction surgery and played her first game just after eight months.

Harvey, Cristi’s dad, born on 21 May 1941, grew up the youngest of seven on a farm in Dilley, Texas of Theodore “Ted” and Theodosia “Theo” Moffett of Dilley, Texas.
He played basketball for Southwestern University in Georgetown. Harvey spent most of his life in Texas and start by running a service station in college, then teaching and coaching. Later, he filled many roles in the hospitality industry whether catering events, building restaurants, hosting parties, or serving customers of many kinds, primarily in Austin.
Cristi’s mom Judy was born on 19 December 1948 in Gadsden, Alabama to Elwyn and Marilyn Christopher. She spent her early year in Birmingham, Alabama until 1976. She married her husband in 1976.
Moreover, she was a few months pregnant with Cristi on her wedding day. Then, she moved to Texas and raised her kids.
Judy worked in the hospitality industry and Cristi’s father-in-law Dirk was her mother’s boss for over 20 years. In early December 2013, she posted a picture of her parents and wrote, “Mom and Dad circa last night….just glad to have them…love my people”.
The HGTV star has also noted on one of her IG posts, that she inherited her mother’s hands and her cheeks.
Sadly, Cristi lost her mother on 27 October 2014. Whereas, her father took his last breath on 1 April 2021. She remembered her father with a lengthy post a few days after her father’s death where she noted that he loved all of his grandkids.
