David Graziano joined Law & Order: Special Victims Unit starting with the twenty-fourth season right after Warren Leight stepped down as showrunner at the end of the current 23rd season. Unfortunately, just the year he joined the crew allegations against him for “mistreating subordinate staffers, being volatile and quick to anger, and making inappropriate and demeaning comments toward women and people of color” emerged from people who have worked with him over the years.
Reportedly, what triggered the series of allegations was the show’s script coordinator, Haley Cameron’s resignation.
According to Haley, the producer “is a very unprofessional, ego-centric, and immature man.” She also added that she’s been in the industry for a long time, but she’s never experienced “such pure, white-male misogyny.”
Likewise, Amy Hartman, who worked as a script coordinator under David in Coyote, said, “Graz is super toxic and I’ve never run from a job so fast in my life as I did when I SC’ed for him. Stay away.”
However, David strictly denied all the claims. A spokesperson for David, Alafair Hall said, “The implication that Mr. Graziano created a hostile work environment, is sexist, inappropriate, and unprofessional is false.” He also stated that face that Haley only “worked briefly” on the show and was “about to be fired” for making unapproved script changes.
Furthermore, the rep shut down any additional accusations stating, “Any statement related to race, ethnicity, or gender by Mr. Graziano was made in the context of creating the storyline, characters, and dialogue.”
Later, David himself stepped up to say that he refused to blame some past behavior on the abuse he suffered and learned as a child at the hands of a Catholic priest as well as his own mother as an excuse for the misogyny.
