David Jakob is responsible for everything to do with beauty in Queer Eye: Germany. Her job is more about empowerment, she would say.
Joining David on this German spin-off were Jan-Henrik Scheper-Stuke, Ayan Yuruk, Leni Bolt and Aljosha Muttardi.
And it’s not like any of these “Fab Fünf” is leading the charge. Just like in the original show, all of them have their specialty.
Leni is the work/life coach, Jan-Henrik handles fashion, Aljosha is an expert in nutrition and health, Ayan is a design ace and David takes charge of all things beauty.
It was shown during the show’s trailer that David can “hear hair talk” as one of the heroes’ hair was screaming David was there to fix it.
So, in this way, David and her crew have some big shoes to fill. The early reviews, however, already recognized the Queer Eye Germany’s star’s ability to capture the same heartfelt “earnestness” that has made their American coequals so lovable. “It’s so bloody lovely, and as with the US version, it is hard to watch without getting choked up” Rebecca Nicolson reviewed for The Guardian.
Queer Eye is an award-winning show and is known for its strong representation amongst the LGBT community and communities that include people of color. While the premise of the show is such that in each episode, the “Fab Five” spend a week applying their mastery to help some individual, that episode’s hero, to give them a makeover and a better taste of life.
