Season 2 of Netflix’s original docuseries Cheer saw some conflict among the assistant coaches and cheerleaders after Monica took a temporary coaching leave. Well, now, it seems Navarro Bulldogs has a new assistant coach, Dustin Velazquez.

Meet Dustin Velazquez, Navarro Cheer Assistant Coach
Dustin Velazquez joined Navarro Bulldogs as its assistant coach in 2022. After summing up his first season onboard, head coach Monica took it to her IG on April 12, 2022, to write, “What a joy it has been to coach alongside you. Your laid-back style is the perfect balance to my over-the-top personality. Your talent is top-notch and your leadership is such a blessing.”
Likewise, Dustin also shared a few kind words about Monica over his IG on the same day. “I was a young man in search of a purpose and in search of guidance and direction. Monica Aldama single-handedly changed my life,” a line wrote.
It seems that Dustin’s history with Monica goes all the way back to 2015. At the time, Dustin was an athlete at Navarro. According to Monica, she always knew “he had a special heart and that (he) would do big things.”
And now, the two are doing those “big things” together.
Furthermore, Dustin’s relationship with Monica isn’t only that of a mentor and apprentice. “Everything she taught me in cheer transferred into my jobs, my relationships, and my marriage. She helped develop me into the person I am,” Dustin explained.
As for those of you wondering, what happened to Navarro’s former assistant coaches. Andy Cosferent and Kailee Peppers didn’t seem to be involved with Navarro Cheer during the 2021-2022 season. So, perhaps, they might have left the show.
Dustin Velazquez Career
Dustin Velazquez initially started his career as a staff instructor at Universal Cheerleaders Association in April 2014. There he gained in-depth knowledge of the program’s functions, rules, and expectations, and after 3½ years, he left the association to work as a tumble instructor at Pride Athletes.
Working for over 4 years at Pride Athletes, Dustin then went on to become a course instructor and athlete recruiter at The Cosmetic Center in August 2018. Meanwhile, he worked there, Dustin also acted as a retail lead at The Walt Disney Company.
In September 2020, Dustin then went on to become an account manager at UPS, where he was responsible for ensuring that customer needs are translated properly and understood by all internal departments.
But since Dustin’s heart lies in cheerleading, he then joined Navarro College as its assistant cheer coach in August 2021.
As for his academic qualifications, Dustin attended Morehead State University from 2015 to 2018 for his bachelor’s degree in university studies.

Dustin Velazquez Age
Dustin Velazquez was 32 years of age when he was appointed as an assistant coach of Navarro Bulldogs.

Dustin Velazquez Wife
Dustin Velazquez married the love of his life, Shannon Velazquez, in September 2019, after 7 years of relationship and a year of engagement. The two then welcomed their first child Mateo Velazquez on May 28, 2020. And as of 2022, Dustin and his wife were expecting their second child — a daughter.
To make their daughter’s gender reveal a memorable one, the pair even had the Navarro cheer team do it for them in Oct 2021.
Talking about his wife, Shannon is also a Navarro College 2015 graduate. After Navarro, she went on to receive her BBA degree from Morehead State University in 2018.
Also, Shannon’s a former cheerleader. From July 2012 to May 2013, she performed routines and lead promotions for LA Clippers. Later, she then joined Universal Cheerleaders Association as its staff instructor and went on to work there for 5½ years training new employees to be successful in their positions.
In 2018, she then joined The Cosim Center as its cheerleading instructor and worked there for a year and a half.
Since then, Shannon worked as visual merchandise and co-ordinator of retail brand development, until she started her career as a gym director at Empire Athletics Gym in August 2021.
Also, meanwhile, she’s ventured into different jobs, she’s always been a cheer coach for Paris Cheer.
