Ethan Finkelstein Bio, Age, Net Worth, Cheap Old Houses

Ethan Finkelstein, the husband of Elizabeth Finkelstein, is appearing on Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? on HGTV. Little is required to be said about his wife Elizabeth. Due to their shared love of historic houses, the two attracted a sizable following to their nationwide real estate listings website. The pair soon discovered that the majority of their audience was interested in older, less expensive properties that could be later repaired. They made the decision to launch an Instagram feed devoted to those older homes as a result.

“It went viral very quickly,” Elizabeth told Distractify of the Instagram page’s shocking popularity. “It’s striking a nerve right now because people can’t afford houses. Millennials who are on Instagram are priced out of the market because they have so much student debt and they are living in major cities that are eating up all of their income in their rent.”

Elizabeth and Ethan, in contrast to other hosts of remodeling shows, are “anti-flipping.” They oppose individuals buying these ancient houses only to demolish their inherent charm and uniqueness.

“I think it’s a refreshing way to talk about houses in a world right now saturated by new, new, new, disposable, disposable, flip, flip,” Elizabeth shared further with the outlet. Instead, they hope viewers will go on a journey with them to “envision what [these homes] used to look like and could look like again.”

Ethan Finkelstein On HGTV Cheap Old Houses

Ethan Finkelstein and Elizabeth Finkelstein, who are best known for Cheap Old Houses have returned with a new show titled Who’s Afraid of a Cheap Old House? The new show premiered on May 14, 2024, at 10 p.m. ET.

The couple takes prospective ancient house buyers on visits to two real estate listings and assists them in assessing their suitability for affordable restoration before embarking on the eight-episode season’s journey from pipe dream to dream home.

The married couple will show prospective buyers two properties valued at around $150,000 in each episode of the redesigned series. After that, they will work with interior designer Jennifer Salvemini and architectural designer Scott Reed to help the buyers renovate the property they buy.

The hosts polled their audience to choose their favorite name for the redesigned format of the show, and the new title was by far the most popular choice.

“What I love about the name is that it’s quite captivating in that it kind of scares you into wanting to watch this show,” Ethan told PEOPLE. “These are pretty cheap houses that need a lot of work. And it kind of begs the question, ‘Are you afraid of a cheap old house?’ Would you do this with your life?”

“It’s giving people the permission and showing them how to do it,” Ethan added. “We’re trying to inspire America that homeownership can be possible. You can still buy cheap old houses all across America.”

“If you love House Hunters, if you love This Old House, if you love interior design shows, this gives you all the best of the best in one little one-hour segment. And we couldn’t be happier with it,” says Ethan.

Elizabeth and Ethan then work with architectural designer Scott Reed and interior designer Jennifer Salvemini to assist the homeowners in discovering, restoring, and revitalizing these incredible, character-rich homes and structures.

The eight episodes will include both more unusual residences, including a firehouse and a church, and traditional homes in the Colonial Revival, Craftsman, Tudor, and Queen Anne architectural styles.
