American Idol Season 21 had its Top 20 now. Viewers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestants after ABC aired the Top 26 contestants’ performances from Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii on April 17 and 18. In a three-hour episode on April 23, 2023, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the Top 20, adding that over 33 million votes were cast to choose the best 20 singers from the country. Hannah Nicolaisen (@itshannahsmusic) only began singing two months before her American Idol audition. Before that, she played Division 1 volleyball at the University of Illinois Springfield. During her whole UIS career, Hannah appeared in a total of 80 matches ending her career while being top-10 in the team’s NCAA era with 650 kills, 781 points, and 186 blocks.
In her New Orleans audition, Hannah sang “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan effortlessly. She got her ticket to Hollywood with three yeses. In the first part of Hollywood Round, Hannah performed her original song called “Going Through the Motions.” For the duet, she performed “It’s Your Love” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill with Warren Peay. In her final solo performance, she sang “I Don’t Want to Be” by Gavin DeGraw and moved to Top 26 Finalist.
In The Top 26 round, Hannah sang “Glitter in the Air” by P!nk and received enough votes from the public to be Top 20. Immediately after the Top 20 result, the contestants had to perform a song, on the basis of which America will get its Top 12 Finalist. Hannah sang “Somebody to Love” by Queen in the Top 20 Round.
About her performance in the Top 20 Round, Katy Perry said, “This is your path, and hopefully you’re just on a rocket ride.” Bryan said he loved hearing a different dynamic from her.
