Who Are Havana Rose Liu Parents?
Havana Rose Liu was born to her parents David Liu and Carley Roney. They met each other while attending New York University where they were undergraduates. Havana’s dad, David told Business Insider, “While we didn’t spend much time talking to each other, we probably saw each other every weekend for a year”. Her mother added, “Yah, and we spent two weeks together in the Soviet Union [through NYU] in which we exchanged exactly one word.”
Years later, Havana’s parents ran into each other at a party and Carley found David “kind of cute”. Seven months into dating each other, they tied the knots on 10 July 1993 on Washington rooftop which made Havana’s maternal grandmother suspicious that Carley was pregnant. She wasn’t.
One of the reasons that Havana’s parents’ marriage worked was because they were both entrepreneurs. They understood the intensity of their work and never had the time and attention for anything else that would ruin their marriage. About working together, Havana’s father added, “Cofounding a company with a spouse is hard. The rate of failure for startups is so high that you kind of attaches your marriage to a business that has unpredictable outcomes.”
David added further, “As a married couple in business together you will experience highs that most couples will never experience. When you close a big deal or IPO with your spouse it’s extraordinary. But some of the lows can be unbelievably dark. Deeper and darker than other couples will likely experience.”
Their business is worth over $700 million and had more than 650 employees.
