Heather Armstrong was raised in a strict Mormon household. But she was never meant for religion — which led her more into s*x and drinking. Surprisingly, when her parents found out about it, though initially disheartened, they ultimately accepted her for who she was and their bond strengthened like never before.
But who are Heather Armstrong’s parents? Keep reading to find out.
Who Are Heather Armstrong Parents?
Heather Armstrong was born to her parents, Linda Hamilton And Mike Hamilton. They raised her outside of Memphis, TN, in a strict Mormon household. No wonder, she pulled straight A’s in high school, served as president of the seminary, and captain of the volleyball team. Her dream was to become the U.S. attorney general, and for that, she moved to Utah in 1993 via an academic scholarship to Brigham Young University.
But during college, Heather began discovering herself. So, instead of going to law school, she moved to Los Angeles and became a Web designer. And since she always wanted to write, she created the blog Dooce in February 2001. There, she initially wrote about “anything and everything as widely and extravagantly” as she wanted to.
The same year, a few days after 9/11, she then posted a blog called “Drunken diatribe” which included comments about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her parents. It was a blog she never expected her parents to read as her dad never used the Internet, and her mom didn’t know how to turn on a computer.
But thanks to her brother, they got a copy of it. “They knew the way I was living but they were never confronted with it,” Heather said. “It was sort of throwing it in their face.”
Thereafter, her father didn’t talk to her for three months and her mother was devastated.
Obviously, Heather was ashamed as well and she removed the post.
Fortunately, with time, Heather and her parents mended their relationship.
But with one problem there came another. Linda now was suffering from suicidal depression. She even stop taking her medication once she got pregnant. Then followed her divorce from her husband, alcoholism, being fired from her job, and more.
“I had a lot to be happy about, but there was just something that was smothering me inside,” she said at the time.
Ultimately, just when things were starting to look good, Linda relapsed after having been sober for more than 18 months in May 2023, and took her own life!
