Becoming a published author lets one have another source of income and earn royalties for life. Not in Kouri Richins’s case though. The children’s book author wrote about dealing with grieving a loved one in her book Are You With Me? and just two months later she has been charged with her own husband’s murder. Here’s why. Kouri Richins Accused Of Killing Husband
Kouri Richins was put in jail on 8 May 2023 in connection with the 2022 death of her husband Eric Eugene Richins. Police believe she gave him a fatal dose of fentanyl disguised in a Moscow Mule, a vodka-based cocktail.
So what happened to Eric?
The autopsy performed on Eric showed that he died from an overdose of fentanyl and that it was ingested orally.
Further investigators found that Kouri had communications with an acquaintance identified as C.L. They had found him on the floor at the foot of his bed and life-saving measures were said to be unsuccessful.
According to the court documents, C.L. alleged that Kouri asked specifically for fentanyl and they later acquired for her 15-30 pills. Days after this alleged conversation, Eric and Kouri had a Valentine’s Day 2022 dinner at home and he “became very ill,” with him telling a friend that he “thought his wife was trying to poison him.” Kouri later is said to have obtained more fentanyl pills from C.L. and after six days, Eric was found dead of a fentanyl overdose.
The search warrant also mentions that before his death, Eric had changed his will and life insurance policy without Kouri’s knowing. He had made his sister his beneficiary. On the warrant, it is also stated that Eric was looking into a divorce and wanted his kids taken care of. Allegedly, Kouri later logged into his account and tried to make herself the beneficiary, but the insurance company notified Eric.
Anyway, after Kouri was charged, she was ordered to remain detained without bail. A detention hearing was scheduled for the following May 19th.
Just a month before all of this happened, Kouri had given a TV interview to promote her soon-releasing book. On what also happened to be her husband’s one-year death anniversary, Kouri had said that his death “completely took” all of them by shock. Also pointing to her book which she was there to promote she said she and the kids “kind of wrote this book on the different emotions and grieving processes that we’ve experienced the last year.” She said they hoped it could also help other kids.
Eric is survived by his and Kouri’s three beautiful young boys.
