HGTV Shane Duffy is the new star of Build It Forward. As reported, he replaced Matt Blashaw on the second season of the show.
The HGTV show adjusted things for Season 2 in response to the popularity of Season 1. In partnership with Lowe’s, designer Taniya Nayak worked with builder Shane to restore five local heroes’ homes around the nation. Shane as a novice to HGTV had huge shoes to fill.
Shane is not a rookie in the world of carpentry or in the realm of television either. In 2022, he made an appearance as a builder during a Galentine’s Bash segment on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, when he and his business partner Sandy Dias gave “hot home improvement tips.”
In an interview with Realtor.com, Shane acknowledged that his area of expertise in house restoration is “maximizing space,” and that living in the Big Apple plays a role in why this is such a crucial skill. “Living in New York City, every apartment is a tiny house, so maximizing space, using horizontal and vertical space, being creative with lighting, and use of windows, is super important,” Shane said.
Shane’s unique approach to home repairs has landed him on the pages of Cosmopolitan, In Touch, OK!, New York Daily News, Life & Style, Yahoo! and Star, among many others.

Meet John Duffy, HGTV Shane Duffy Father
John Duffy is the father of HGTV Shane Duffy. He is 65 years old being born in July 1957.
John is one of the six children of Constance “Connie” M. West and Joseph Duffy. However, after his parents separated, Connie married George West.
Connie was a bartender for the Long Branch Saloon for over 15 years and later worked for one of her close friends, Dee, at the Rockport Inn. She was the family caregiver, offering herself to so many members through their illnesses.
Connie passed away at the age of 30 December 2007. She was born in Janesville on June 15, 1933, the daughter of John and Valeria (Liebe) Piekarski.
Joe’s siblings are Joe (Lynn) Duffy of St. Paul Park, MN, Penny (Tim) Elmer of Beloit, Derome West of Boerne, TX, and Derard West of Janesville. His brother Leo Duffy died a while back. Four of John’s siblings died during infancy.
Back to John, he is serving as the CEO at Foremost Forensics On Site Drug & Alcohol Testing, LLC since 2005. Before his current job, John worked as State Alcohol & Drug Control Officer at Texas Army National Guard for three years.
A military veteran, John served in the US Army from 1976 to 2003. Moreover, he is also a licensed Collector Trainer, Medical Examiners Administrative Assistant, and Breath Alcohol Technician Instructor.
