According to Willamette Week, Jesse L Calhoun is a person of interest in the killings of four women in Oregon. The publication reports that according to authorities, a serial murderer may have been responsible for the four fatalities.
The four women Kristin Smith (age 22, reported missing on 22 December 2022), Charity Lynn Perry (age 24, died on 24 April 2023), Bridget Leann Webster (age 21, died on 30 April 2023), and Ashley Real (age 22, reported missing on 4 April 2023) was found dead on 7 May 2023.
Nigel Jaquiss and Lucas Manfield of Willamette Week reported on 17 July 2023, that “detectives have linked four of the deaths to Jesse Lee Calhoun, whose most recent address is in Portland.” Although the district attorney has acknowledged a link between the four fatalities, authorities have not officially said that Calhoun is the person of interest.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt released a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.
“Investigators and prosecutors from multiple law enforcement agencies have been working collaboratively on numerous death investigations in Northwest Oregon, and they have determined that there are links between four cases: Kristin Smith, Charity Perry, Bridget Webster, and Ashley Real,” the statement read.
The district attorney avoided giving out names of the “person of interest.” He wrote, “No charges have been filed against anyone in connection with any of these four death investigations. Investigators have interviewed multiple people in connection with these cases and have identified at least one person of interest that is linked to all four of the decedents. Based on the available information to investigators, there is not believed to be any active danger to the community at this time.”
In the statement, he also added that nine different law enforcement agencies have been working together.
Jesse is currently in the custody of Snake River Correctional Institution. There, he was scheduled for July 6, 2023. The fees are not disclosed. According to Willamette Week, the accusations are unrelated to the murders, but police anticipate that he will soon face charges in connection with them.
According to Willamette Week, Jesse “is among the more than 1,000 inmates whom former Gov. Kate Brown granted clemency, allowing them to leave prison early.” The website stated that his clemency had been rescinded. The publication claims that Calhoun was released early due to COVID-19.
Jesse is a career criminal with an extensive rap sheet dating back 20 years. He has previously been charged with possession of substances, firearms, and burglary. Since Jesse’s arrest in 2019 and sentencing for four years and two months, neighbors in Troutdale, Fairview, Gresham, and surrounding areas report property crimes and burglaries dropped significantly.
Investigators also linked Jesse to a handful of other cases in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Clark Counties.
