Jesse Solomon, a newbie on Summer House, opened up about his health crisis on the show. He went to his doctor in 2017 for a checkup and to be screened for STDs. He had a little but unexpected symptom during the exam.
“I felt like a twinge of pain in my testicle. I didn’t really think anything of it,” Jesse told TODAY.com. “The doctor said, ‘…you know it’s probably nothing but go get an ultrasound.’”
Jesse eventually completed all the tests the doctor had prescribed following a work vacation. And not too long after, he got a call asking him to go back to the doctor. An additional revelation came from a follow-up chat with his physician. He was diagnosed with stage 1 testicular cancer and underwent surgery to remove his testicle.
“It was painful,” he says. “…Piranhas jumping around in your stomach while getting kicked in the nuts by a small child would be a good way to put it because they cut a hole in your stomach and take out one of your testicles.”

Jesse underwent routine checkups every six weeks for the first year. Then, approximately 11 months after the surgery, his doctor discovered that he had stage 2 testicular cancer due to malignancy in his stomach lymph nodes. Between July and September of 2018, Solomon had to go through four rounds of chemotherapy.
“I was nauseous all the time and didn’t feel great,” he says. “I definitely lost my hair, like my eyebrows towards the end I definitely had like tingling in the fingers and the toes and ringing in my ears.”
Jesse kept his cancer diagnosis a secret from everyone but his family. However, he opened out more about his diagnosis after learning that he would require chemotherapy and would lose his hair. He keeps being open about what it’s like to have cancer and how it has affected him.
“One of the big reasons I wanted to go on (‘Summer House’) was (because) I thought my story could help people,” Jesse clarified. “A lot of people know someone who’s going through something similar whether it’s cancer or any sort of illness.”
During supper on the second episode of season 8, Jesse disclosed his condition to the other housemates. He didn’t feel like a cancer survivor because, initially, surgery seemed to be the solution.

Working in Investor Relations and a veteran of the Hamptons summer and standing tall at 6’5, he’s never had an issue with the ladies and doesn’t plan to start now, regardless of their relationship status. With a big milestone coming up at the end of summer, Jesse opens up to his new friends and finds solace in their support.”
